Anyone out there planning on hitting the Florida IBR checkpoint? Besides competitors, of course ;)

I'll be shipping my goodies to the hotel for an oil change and I just need someone to properly dispose of my used oil for me. There is a very nice, fairly compact 6-quart Blitz oil drain pan in it for you. Check it out: Clicky So fancy, and only used once :D It seals up nice & tight so you can transport in on your bike without mess, plus I'll throw in whatever cash you need for disposal and your troubles.

TIA!

Be glad to help if I still lived in FL, but Seattle is kind far away to help with oil disposal. :dribble:

How do you know there's a checkpoint in FL? I've looked and can't find a schedule for the IBA yet. I'm particularly interested in finding out where the start is because I'd like to stop by. I'm gonna be on a ride around WA,OR,ID,MT at that time and want to schedule that in.

Start, finish, and checkpoints have been known to IBR participants for some time. I *think* it is open knowledge now but I am not sure.

Here's some 'general' info:

Start - Seattle area.

Checkpoint - New Yorks State I believe

Checkpoint - Jacksonville, FL

Finsih - Ontario, CA

Yep, I just got the thumbs up from Lisa this morning that the info is as public as it's ever going to be. (And those locales are accurate.)

I would add to anybody thinking about visiting the checkpoints to do it--it's a great opportunity. However, please use your visitor powers for good and be sensitive to what's going on.

With a hundred or so competitors having prepped for over a year, spending thousands of bucks, taking what is (in essence) an intense 2-3 week of vacation spanning a major portion of a continent......nerves can sometimes become a bit raw. Having run it twice myself I can say it's great Friday, Saturday, and even part of Sunday to kibitz with spectators and interested lookey-lous.

From Sunday afternoon to Monday morning an hour before the start time....not as much.

And staff are trying to do a thousand things to help make the event happen....so let them do their thing. It's a great spectacle to see and be part of and remember it's a privilege to visit and feel fortunate the IBR remains open about it. :)

Well, I'll be in Ontario for the finish. Looking forward to seeing all the 'bright, cheery faces' of all you particpants after 11 grueling days on the road. I'll be the drunk one making fun of you all. :D

I can report that it's very easy for a rider to get caught up visiting with onlookers. Often it's friends not see FtF very often. It could just as easily be e-mail correspondents from lists and forums, or complete strangers. It's easy to spend far too long chatting with enthusiasts who share your enthusiasm. Since it's often days (long, long days) since the last time a rider has interacted with anyone for more than a quick fuel fill, bonus photo, etc., the chance to share our excitement with others who "get it" can be very strong.

Help them remember that the check point is there for a reason, there are things that need to get done, and once those things are done, rider rest time trumps tire kicking.

Went over to Spokane and watched them all come in it was fun to see it unfold. There was some sadness that day also.

SkooterG, you looked wired when you rolled in.

Matt's dad was there also gave him a big hug and called him one tough SOB as I recall.

As the rider's were coming in I tried to stay out of their way as they looked ragged. Something to see and even better when you've meet a few of the riders!

I can do that for you. I'm planning on attending the FL checkpoint and I'll be riding my FJR. Thanks for preordering the Blitz oil pan! Makes it much easier to transport back to a place I can dump it.

Not sure if I'll spend the night (hadn't called to see if there's a room available - but I have stayed there before for IBA Jax Bikeweeks).

IF any other FJR forum IBR competitors need to do the same thing, let me know; I can bring my car with my 5 gallon oil jug and I'll just take care of all of it. Or whatever else you may need, just let me know...

As a prior IBR competitor, let me say a BIG thank-you on the current rider's behalf. You have no idea how much assistance like this means. These folks have been prepping for the soon-to-be 11 day ride for the better part of a year. A LOT of stuff to get ready. It can be all-consuming. And then once the even begins, well.... I don't even know how to describe it. But having folks like you take care of 'the little shit' when you can is a HUGE help and one less thing the rider has to stress about. And believe me, they have a LOT to stress about.

For me, in 2007, Smitty was my pitman (as well as for many others) and I still owe him a debt of gratitude. In 2009, Smitty, kaitsdad, and vectervp1 were there to help me at various points of the rally, and again, I am grateful beyond what words can say.

I'll be at the checkpoint and will gladly take care of you old oil. Maybe I can EBay it. Genuine IBR rally oil. No monetary incentive required, only a promise to reciprocate the favor someday. :)

What Skooter said - I know a lot of people will be at the checkpoint & I'm sure that many would be willing to chuck some oil(in exchange for a beautiful Blitz, no less ;) ), but it really takes a load off when I KNOW that I don't need to sweat it. When we're talking about my mental well-being, every little bit helps!!

I'll give Jim first stab at it, but I'll definitely keep stryg8r in reserve. It never hurts to have a plan B :)

Thanks again for the offers of help & I'll look forward to seeing you guys (briefly) in Jacksonville.

I have a pal who lives in JAX who will be there with a small truck. I'm sure he's willing to help, as well. I'm shipping him some tools and what not.
