I saw BB Mtn last week and I just didn't think it was that good a film. I think it got a lot of good reviews because people in the movie biz are afraid to criticize it lest they be deemed homophobic. I thought it dragged in places. Too many superfluous scenes that didn't really need to be part of the film.
It reminded me of the film many years ago "The Last Temptation of Christ" with Willem Dafoe. It got a lot of press because religious groups kept harping on about the content. The bottom line though was that it wasn't a very good film. Far fewer people would have seen it if the groups that opposed it, had just ignored it. I for one only saw it because I wanted to know what all the ruckus was about. It was very much a tempest in a teapot.
As for other films I saw lately...one that let me down...The Chronicles of Narnia. Didn't warm up to the children in the film. I think there was just too much going on to develop the characters. In fact 30 minutes in I was hoping someone would 'off' the whiney kid. I don't think you are supposed to feel that way?!
I also saw Syriana. I thought it was very good primarily because they creators took a chance. In many ways it is just a David and Goliath story but I thought it was told well. I can't really go into more because it was kind of an unconventional film and I don't want to ruin it for anyone.
Last night I watched the DVD 'Shaun of the Dead'. It is a British comedy which is a bit of a take-off of Dawn of the Dead. I had seen it before but my wife hadn't. I think it is a great independent film. Quirky and well written. There are a few gory scenes but they are handled almost comically. It is well worth renting. Or doing as I do and borrowing from our local library.

I had never heard anyone suggest that Errol Flynn was a homo before.
I enjoyed Narnya. Seemed to me to be typicsl English kids for the period.
I also saw King Kong and was definately not imoressed. The big scene with the fighting dinosaurs was much too long and the entire film was pretty much just a re-hash of the original, except not as good.

Last Friday night after poker the group that I play with sat aroud and watched Revenge of the Sith with Slightly Intoxicated Geek Commentary. Hillarious. I hated that movie.

If you're into movies (as I am), I've got an excellent one for you. It's called "Empire Falls". It's about the politics of a small upstate town in Maine. If you get it be prepared to hunker down for a while. It's a nine hour Mini-Series. Four Stars for sure.

Wonder how Jack Palance would have handled the cow munchers? Best show I've seen lately was on History Channel, all the "Band of Brothers" back to back so as to make for a nice progression from one to the next over the holidays. An outstanding program on an outstanding unit. Best viewing out there IMHO.

OTOH, Montgomery Clift was very well known to be gay--today, he's probably be "out".
I guess I'm just not that interested in Brokeback Mountain--no desire to see it at all. I'm not against films about gays, or anti-gay--I'm just not interested in this movie.
