I was thinking that some people have a knack for tasteful design that you'd never be able to tell from OEM.

The owner of that 'Wing isn't one of them.

It's been a long time since I posted, just been busy riding my 07 FJR and working. The topic here interests me because the local dealer has been trying to get me on several bikes other than the FJR that he sold me 4 years and 24,000 miles ago. I've owned a few bikes over the years, Suzuki X6 Hustler, Honda CB450, Yamaha XS650, BMW 1150R, Honda ST1300 and my present FJR. The problem I presently have is two fold, the FJR is getting "long of tooth" in styling but I can't find a bike that comes close to it in performance for the price.

I've ridden the FJR in the blistering heat of the Arizona Desert, the cold of the Sierra Nevadas and in pouring down monsoon rains here in SE Arizona. The bike just does everything I ask it to do, not perfectly but darn near, has never let me down. Forget to down shift on that hill, not to worry the 1300cc four banger has enough low end torque to cover me. Rev it up and it jumps like a cat, so fast and so smooth I sometimes forget how fast I'm going until I get a glimpse of Johnny Law on the side of the road or scare the crap out of myself. Rolls through corners like it's on rails. I can change my own oil, filter adjust the fuel map, valves and the list goes on. Incredible machine in my opinion.

The bike is one of Yamaha's best kept secrets. When I park it I sometimes get compliments on the (too soft) but beautiful black cherry paint and how it looks "fast" just sitting there. Nice that other people think it's a neat looking bike. Needs a facelift though, as Carlson pointed out; heated grips, intruments maybe a GPS option.

One of my spies at the dealer told me today that he heard Yamaha was coming out with a restyled FJR. I don't know if that's true or just wishful thinking but Yamaha needs to look after this market. Pay more for some of the mentioned items......why not, you only go around once. Cheers! :yahoo:

After reading some of the great replies to this subject, even the humorus provoked thought on this ride (FJR). Got quite a kick out of the Goldwing with the toe chopper alternator..

Two very different crowds in our group, the one set that wants the FJR frills free, a platform for customizing to ones desire. Low cost out the door, farkles to be added later, of course for a cost, and if your not doing your own wrenching, you are chaff in the wind of a possible hammer mechanic.

The other crowd, wants a fully loaded gizmo, full bells and whistles, with an understandable mind set some mechanical/technical skills are lacking and having that issue overcome by the factory installed extras. I appreceiate my level of skill, and respect my limits. I know when to not fugg it up.

One thing has come out of both of above mentioned groups, there is a strong desire that Cruise Control being a factory installed feature should be the norm.

It would most likely be cheaper than aftermarket install, even with labor.

Its a great bike, as I am starting to install a Murph's CC kit on my bike, it would sure be sweet if CC was stock.and ya, I am nearing my mechanical limits. they seem to get lower each beer.

I hope somebody who makes decisions at Yammie reads these posts. For me: a cruise control. Hands down the best farkle ever. It keeps me outa jail.

"Now, I'm no Jeremy Burgess. But I'm pretty sure that is not how you are supposed to do it..."

No helmet lock. Who was the dick that left that out. Really annoyed the crap outa me on my last trip away considering my mate on his Blackbird had one.

I've had the MC Cruise on my 04 for years and when traveling freeways or through long stretches of National Park where the rangers love to give tickets it's a money saver.

You guys bought a 145HP, 150MPH, motorcycle to "save your license"...?

Nooooo--I bought a CRUISE CONTROL to "save my license" so I could continue to RIDE my "145HP, 150MPH, motorcycle." To quote the great race-car driver Stirling Moss, "I'd rather take a 30mph curve at 45 than go 200mph on a straightaway."

Where the Feejer is fun is in the twisties, and cruise control is generally a bad idea there, but getting to and returning from the twisties usually require a couple of hours on the slab, where I have a tendency to let my speed wander up into the illegalsphere; on the slab, being able to set the CC to 75 and let the electrons run the throttle for a while is a god-send. And you know God rides a Feejer.

And another thing... howzabout a little advertising budget for the FJR, Mr. Yamaha Marketing Department? I ran into 3 guys today at Cracker Barrel, one of whom owns an R1, and they all said "A what? Never heard of an FJR!"

C'mon guys, close down the solitaire game on windows and do your job. Harley did a better job advertising Buell, for god's sake!

Out of many many motorcyclists maybe one out of five have heard of an FJR. When regular people ask what I ride, I don't even bother telling them the model name anymore. I just tell them a sport touring bike and they get confused. Then they look at it and go "oh yah a crotch rocket, don'tcha know"

I would like to see Climate Control on the next Gen....

Hmm seems to me, I don't really nit pik on my 05, everything is great just the way I modded it...

There are so many different aftermarket products out there to add on to the bike to give you everything you could possibly want or need....

This bike is fast, very very low maintenence and can still do long hauls rather nicely...

Windscreen

Sliders

Throttlemeister - not the greatest but not horrible, I use it all the time..

Suspension - awesome aftermarket - do you really want the electronic crap that doesn't really work...?

seat - everyones @$$ is different, and were all @$$es - how do you make one size fit all...

helmut locks - aftermarket awesome cheap

big foot pad - aftermarket awesome cheap

Mirrors - FZ1 - cheap

Exhaust - if you really need it for the sound or the prettiness factor...

Plus countless many more out there......

All the addons and this bike still beats the snot out of a BMW for much less money...
