I have an 04, but have not gotten a recall notice, I'm the second owner. I installed Brodie's relay mod last winter. Do I need to install a new switch too?
The recall is only for 08 model onwards.... whatever it is, its definitely a Gen II. Ours should not have the problem. Those who have are isolated cases. If yours is not giving you problems, I dont see the need for a new switch.

Thanks for the info. Getting ready to head to Bike Week in Daytona next week. Don't need that worry heading down the road.

You have an '04 bike which has an alternator with 490 watts output. That is a full 100 watts less than the 2nd generation bikes. Part of the reason the recall is for 2006 and later is the higher wattage output being channeled through the old design switch. It just gave out sooner when the contacts weathered.

Since you installed my Ignition Relay Harness a year ago January, you should have no fear of your switch failing due to heat damage. My device takes all that amperage away from the ignition switch and channels it through a 70 amp automotive relay. Your ignition switch is now handling a tiny fraction of the power it used to. However, it is still needed to trigger the relay so it must be in good working order.

The 1st generation FJR's still have the original design switch. They can still fail. It only takes enough corrosion within the electrical contact area to start the thermal runaway. Several of the people with 1st generation bikes who bought my Ignition Relay Harness had a failed ignition switch. It just doesn't happen as often.

Enjoy your trip to Daytona.

Remember, if there aren't any pictures - It Didn't Happen!

I didnt know that!!! Oh no! I've replaced my stator coil before and it its the new model, though I'm not sure whether its really the Gen II version or just a newer Gen I, if that exists.

Ok ok, just checked it out and I should be safe.

My stock stator's PN is 5JW-81410-00-00

The replacement I got is 5JW-81410-10-00

And the Gen II version is 3P6-81410-00-00
