I know this has been discussed many times, cause I have done the search.

My thoughts are: Since mine just went out last weekend in Casper WY and it is getting replaced as we speak, what am I getting for a replacement? I'm getting another OEM switch that could go out as easy or easier than the original, or it could last forever! For those of you who have already been through this and replaced the unit, what did you replace it with? I dont even know of another choice other than OEM.

I would like to see Yamaha address the issue, do a complete recall and reengineer the switch altogether. Its either that or carry anther spare switch or learn how to do a complete bypass when and if it fails again!

They must have had a bad batch of switches because it only seems to effect the 06 model year. In my case, the dealer wired in a Honda ATV switch (which I will be carrying with me when my new switch is installed).

so far i have not heard of one failure of the "euro" style switch.

these failures only seem to be effecting the std non "euro" type switches.

all fjr's sold in europe, canada and australia have a coded chip inside the switch.

I thought someone mentioned that the switch itself wasn't failing, it was the tension of the wires connected to the switch due to the routing. When it was first mentioned, I looked at mine, and they were exceptionally tight. I loosened them up a bit to give slightly more play in hopes to avoid that situation.

Was yours an actual switch failure or the wiring connecting to the switch?

I will tell you after I find out, sometime Saturday. I have heard that "wires are to tight" theory,

but I dont think thats the problem. Theres too many others that have experianced failures and then been able to "jiggle" the key and make it work or even put in the spare key and it work. Thats not wiring, its an engineering problem some where in the switch. Hence my concearn about putting the same OEM switch back on it! I think I'll check into the Honda ATV switch!

Most '06-'07 failures are due to a tight harness. Previous years' switches themselves were the part that failed.

I know. It happened to me. Now I carry a spare switch assy I found on eBay.
