This morning when I went out to get on my bike, I turned the key to "on" and got nothing. I fiddled with the key and found that if I turn it slowly from Off to ON, about 1/2 way the lights and power will come on, and it will turn over, but will not fire up. If I continue to turn the key past this point the power goes out again and I have nothing. I am onclined to think that my problem lies in the switch, but maybe some of you can tell me if this sounds like a fuse or a relay problem as well.

I have owned the bike only 4 months and it has a total of 33k on the clock. I rode it 300 miles yesterday and had no problems. Any advice as to where to start troubleshooting?

Tom, yes it sound quite likely its the ignition switch. You need to either get it to a dealer, or call Yamaha Corporate Customer Service (Phone # on their website) to verify if the ignition switch recall was performed. They should be able to tell you based on the VIN.

If the recall was performed, it shouldn't be the switch that's causing problems, so I doubt it was. You need that new updated switch.

Thanks guys! I had a full morning of plans this morning, but now will have time to dig into this. I appreciate your help!

I the switch has been changed due to recall then the dealer is supposed to have put a punch mark aqbove the last digit of the serial number on the frame. Take a look. "no punch, no recall"

Hey, thanks to all that jumped in to help on this one. I'm happy to report that I called the dealer (Apache Honda) and got my Ignition switch recall taken care of. It took a week to get the parts but the replacement went great and I got my ride back home today. Hopefully the rain will stop and it will warm up this weekend and I can go shake it down.

Thanks again, :yahoo:

I played Russian roulette with mine for awhile before getting it replaced. On several occasions, I had to turn the key off and on ten or so times before the bike would come to life.
