I have a 2007 with the Heli Tour performance upper triple tree clamp and want to replace it with the Heli Bridge. To do this I have to install the original Triple tree crown which requires the ignition switch be remounted. I found a reference to an 8mm but not length and thread type.

What size are the "security bolts" (item 41 in the fiche )?

TIA

A wondering mind here, why would you go thru all that work or maybe what are you gaining?
I can confirm that they are an M8-1.25 thread pitch as I just checked me stock 07 top plate. I have and old MCL product on my 07 and just measured the switch boss and it looks to be a 1/2 inch thick so a one inch long bolt should cover it. They use blue Lock Tight on the threads.

Stock triple clamp switch holes are tapped 20mm deep. Taking switch thickness into account, I'd say a M8 X 20 would do the trick. Socket head cap screw is what I've used in the past.

Full story is I am swapping the Heli Bridge to my 07 from a 16. When I got the 16 I went for a 200+ mile ride and found the position too upright. It also places my helmet directly in the air flow from the windscreen. I really like the Tour Performance HR and risers on my 07 so I figured i would swap then before selling the 07.

I have a 2014 fjr and need to replace the top clamp. Do the ignition bolts have some type of cap on them that has to be pried off?

Does the ignition switch have to come off to replace the top clamp? It doesn't on my 2011...

The ignition switch bolts have a special top on them - they are tightened until the top breaks off and they have to be drilled to remove them which is why many people replace them with cap screws if they replace the ignition switch.

As RK indicates, the switch security bolt heads need to be drilled for removal. Carefully center punch the head and using a new sharp bit, drill a pilot hole. If you hit the center exactly, a 5/16" bit will remove the bolt head. If you're off center a bit, you'll need to move up to 3/8". The hole doesn't need to be too deep, maybe +/- 1/4" ish.

Good luck!
