A few weeks ago, my son graduated from Army OSUT training - which is basic combined with infantry. He chose me to put the blue infantry cord on him during his "turning blue" ceremony and he graduated the next day. Today he graduated from jump school and got his jump wings.

I'm not here to brag on him, well maybe I am, but you folks in this community are great people and I know a lot of you are vets or have family members serving so I thought I would share this news. Those of you who have children in the military know how I'm feeling, I can only describe it as tremendous pride mixed with horrible fear.

Well I think I've said too much. I'd post a picture but I'm having problems getting the picture to load up.

Congratulations on your son's achievement. :clapping:

May he and all the other young warriors be safe as they fight our nation's fight...

Another young Army dude wanting to jump outta perfectly good airplane.......................won't they ever learn.

Congratulations from a USAF Vet.

Went through that m'self in January '02, at Ft. Benning, Ga.

Son early enlisted during his senior year, went to Basic fall after H.S. graduation at Ft. Leonard Wood and we went to see that graduation. He was in Basic for 9-11, kind of a scary feeling around home. Then he went to airborne at Ft. Benning and we got to see that, too. 3 hours of C-130s circling around throwing out soldiers, then the class assembled and marched up for the ceremony.

After that he went for a year of school at Ft. Sam Houston for his medical lab technician rating. Went to Iraq for most of 2004, made Sergeant while over there, came back and went to Ft. Bliss in El Paso, went into the Green-to-Gold program to finish college in ROTC, graduated and got his commission in December '07. First post as an Ell-Tee was Ft. Myer in D.C. (Arlington Cemetary) and he's now in Hawaii as a 1st Lt, due to make Captain before spring. It's 9 years since Basic now, can't believe it!

I'm sure he'll be at least Colonel before he retires. Not a lot of generals in the Medical Corps, but he'll find a way in if it's there!

Proud? Nah. . . . :D

Here he is with his sister at her wedding:

BTW, do everything you can to make sure he takes advantage of any conceivable program to acquire skills for later life! The Army can set you up for life, or it can spit you out and leave you hopeless. It's up to the soldier which way it goes, and it's not a whole lot of effort to go the better way!

Congrats! As woofshee said, take every oppertunity to move up as possible. Sometimes he will need to look for those and ask about them.

Contratulations to you and him. :yahoo: As Wfooshee said, if he takes advantage of what the ARMY has to offer he'll go far.

I never know why anyone would jump out of a perfectely good airplane, but I've rapelled out of several Hueys.

12B40 here. Why walk when you can ride.

I think we should all be proud of our kids' achievements. And yours are definitely not insignificant.

Why are we all so modest when such big accomplishments are involved? This isn't like he scored a goal in rec soccer.

Big congrats to your whole fam damily!

Please thank him for Serving and Protecting our Freedom. And Thank You and the Mrs for raising a fine young man! :clapping:
