Just finished my inaugural ride on 2008 FJR1300A which I picked up on Tuesday. Loop from South Placer County, back way to AP, through Woodland, Capay Valley and back via Williams and Marysville . Perfect day on new bike. I have been lurking here a while. Typical baby boomer M/C backgound: BSA in 1969, succession of dirt bikes in 1970s and 80s. Back to the street in 1990s, but emphasis on touring. Great bike and great forum. See you down the road.

Welcome, Triumphs in the 70's, 65 Harley for 18 years in the 80's and 90's a few bad years with nothing, a barn find 73 Triumph Trident to present and the last six months the FJR wow! A few of what these people call farkles and now I have a second wife! Life is good!

Welcome from another local rider. There are quite a few NorCal guys, with up to a couple dozen showing up for some of the group rides. I think Dr. Rich's next planned ride might fit your touring bent - check the Cali subforum if you're interested.

Of course, now that you've got the new rubber scrubbed off a bit on those mostly-straight roads, I gotta say the local twisty stuff is starting to shape up - couple of damp spots in the shade and the occasional rock on Hwys 49 and 193 today, but still fun. Let the FJR loose and she'll surprise you with her agility in the tight stuff - maybe even enough to shift your emphasis from touring to S/T.

Thanks for the welcome.

RSVLFeej: You are right about all the great local tight and twisty bits in the Sierra and beyond. I have been sport riding those for many years on another bike. After yesterday's shakedown cruise, I will rethink the new FJR as both my new touring bike and my new sport bike.

Good on 'ya. Don't forget to post your miles on the "million mile challenge" post

Congrats. The riding just doesn't get any better. Now you need to take it to NAFO for some awesome Rocky Mountain ridin' in July.

Welcome to FJR's anonymous! Don't be shy about jumping in on some of our future rides. Pay attention to the California rides section of this board. I look forward to meeting you and seeing your new beauty! :clapping:
