At the request and suggestion of the S.O., a Wing is going to be added to our garage. The deal has been made and money has changed hands. Thanks to Bounce and all (Bounce hooked me up with the GL1800riders web site) so I had an idea of what a good deal was on one of these babies. As usual the information provided here was invaluable. Thanks to everyone that responded.

She is a beautiful new blue 07 with ABS and Navi, etc.. The deal was made with Steel City Harley Davidson Honda in Washington, PA. I can't give the specifics of what a good deal it was, but Lee Mox at Steel City did a deal that made a trip to Ohio or Chatanooga absolutely unnecessary.

Yes, Thursday is the day. She is blue and she is beautiful.

We expect pics by Friday. Otherwise, we are going to start nasty rumors about you.

Congrats on the Wing. As a former parts counter person in my youth (89-91), I predict you'll have a sheepskin seat cover and $10k worth of pointless chrome adorning it within the year. Don't forget a mini American flag and a small stuffed teddy bear hugging an antenna. Oh, you need to start learning to watch for places that give AARP discounts and start participating in the rumor/gossip circles at your GWRRA meetings, like how Joe is gonna trade up his wing soon but doesn't want to let on because everyone he likes is happy with their wing and he doesn't want someone on his blacklist to make plans to buy it etc etc.

Yeah, I sure miss Wingers camping out at the parts counter all day  There was a REASON we called the Gold Whiners...they had nothing to do but sit around and scrutinize every little detail every day, so I think that generalization stuck with me, right or wrong.

Please don't take anything I've said her to heart, it was 95% tongue-in-cheek.

Does that mean we'll see you going 3 miles under the speed limit wearing a baseball hat and high-water jeans with 6 inches of athletic sock showing above your sneakers?

Ahhhh so many comments, I don't know which to respond to....

Indeed, the FJR stays. Both are blue so the helmets remain color coordinated with whichever bike is the steed for the day.

The S.O? Yep, her idea. She started with asking me what color I might like in a wing. When I said that I was fine with the FJR she said that she really liked the comfort of the Wing passenger seat she sat on at the dealer some months ago. For sure, she is a keeper (the S.O.). She know's how important motorcyling is to my spirit and wants to be a part of it as much as possible. She almost died right in front of me a couple of years ago from a brain anneurysm and truly realizes how short life is and how tomorrow is not promised (as do I). Her life was touch and go for over a month. I got her back and now it is about living and enjoying life to it's fullest.

Pic's to follow after picking up the bike (hopefully I'll be able to figure out how to do it.)

Who said that I already don't drive three miles under the speed limit? :p AARP? You betcha, I turned 50 last October and they have been hounding me like a bill collector ever since. So.... if it will save me a few bucks...Okee doke.

Congratulations!!

You'll love the wing, not better mile muncher out there. Your S.O. won't get on another bike after riding on the wing.

I've had 2 1800s, 25,000 miles each and miss them (along with my VFR). I ride solo so like the FJR better but for slab, comfort, wind protection and all day comfort you can't beat the wing!

I'll get another in a few years when my wife and/or kids can take trips with me but at age 44 hope to ride the FJR for a while.

Steve

Sounds like you have the perfect set up now. I have an FJR and a Goldwing and my wife will ride nothing but the Goldwing. Good part is, that makes the FJR my solo bike :yahoo: You will love the wing, and the GL1800riders board, good people there as well. Looking forward to seeing the pics of your new ride.

Thanks guys, for the congrats. Picked up the bike today, but because of other commitments couldn't ride it much today (it was also hot an humid as a mother hubbard today. By the time I got home from the dealer I was sweating like a pig).

I think you're right OhioFJR, it IS the perfect setup. Funny thing is that although they are both blue, upon getting the wing in the garage I discovered that they are virtually identical shades of blue. Although variety is good, they do look pretty cool sitting side by side. The FJR looks like a 650 next to the wing. Now all I need is an FZ1 of the same color to complete the fleet ;) , but that is not going to happen in THIS lifetime.

I'll try to get some pic's up over the next couple of days, as work allows.

Congrats on the Wing. There is certainly one in my future too. My wife loves them. I think it is a universal truth. I've tried to modify the FJR and VTX for more Pillion comfort, but it's like trying to make a Cadillac out of Chevy. I like the idea of adding an FZ1 to the stable next. I really want an R1 or GSXR with comfortable ergos. The FZ1 is about as close as you can get. I actually like the ergos on the pre-2006 FZ1 better.

Make sure you get a picture of the Blue fleet.

The Goldwing has a built in safeguard for speeding - the speedo is about 5 mph over optimistic. When I set the cruise to 80 mph I'm actually dialed into 75 mph. There is a way around it. When you wear out the rear tire you can switch from a 60 to 70 series tire (Valcarie size) and that supposedly corrects the speedo/odo.

I'm pretty sure you will enjoy your new bike. Loads of power and handles well.

AARP has a pretty good roadside assistance plan that includes RV/motorcycles.

If you have any questions regarding your new bike, feel free to ask me. Just like the FJR, the GL1800 shop manual is a good first 'farkle'. Don't forget to order Fred Harmon's awesome DVDs. Parts fische on Honda Direct Line's website plus good prices on goodies. HDL also has one of the better Wing forums.
