Now I knew that the tires were wore on the FJR after riding cross country to WCR and the down to NAFO last year.

Knowing I was going to be putting new tires and the poor job my dealer did last time was the main decision in buying my No-Mar Tire Changer.

However had I known the tires were this bad I probably would have taken an extra day while at NAFO and put on a new set there.

I'm sure dcarver could get a few more thousand miles out of these babies since they were still holding air. On the otherhand I was somewhat concerned I had let things get this bad. Weather conditions have not been conducive to working outside I decided to brave the elements and get some work done.

I put on my Nanook of the North cap, put on my gloves, put on my parka and head out the door...

The No-Mar worked as advertised and in no time we had the tires changed...

I then set my my balancer in the kitchen since it was warmer and closer to the beer in the fridge. The advantage of having a batchelor pad is no one yells at you when you act on good ideas like this one. I got the front balanced and had it back on the bike but then it was time to go to the pub to watch the Vancouver hockey game. I should have stayed home.

I'm having a little problem getting the rear balanced but these are tires I had on the bike before. I flatted the rear just before heading out to WCR and couldn't get another PR2. I decided to put on a set of Avon Storm Ultra 2's.

The tires I mounted are the old PR2's since the patch on the rear is fine for now and I have a brand new PR2 that I will put on before CFR and will get a new PR2 for the front.

I should have everything back together today and take a run up to the dealer to pick up some new parts.

That is some really funky wearing on the front tire. It looks like it is off to one side. Do you lean to one side in the saddle a lot?

Cripes! Even I have never let a front tire get that bad. You're crazy! That's right, I, SkooterG, am calling you crazy for riding on tires that were waaaay past their expiration date. That's saying something. You need to seek help!

That front tire must have been handling like ****.

You're right, the bike was handling like crap. I swear the tire was not that bad when I put it anyway last fall. I think the garage fairy was messing with my bike.

BikerGeek says I ride 'lopsided'. I believe it is because I'm always leaned into the prevailing Westerly winds.

Having ridden with you a fair ways, I'd say you ride pretty much straight up in the saddle. That wear looks more like typical left turn wear (heavy bike, higher speed = more wear on the left side). Same thing for left side cupping.

Green grass? WTH! Before we got snow today (3 or 4") our grass is still a pukey shade of brown. Nice toque though.

Does that mean I should save them for you?

When I was heading out to WCR and was running across Montana at 240 kph the bike was vibrating so bad it was blurring my vision. When I got to GP Suspensions and had the wheels off, I took the wheels over to another shop and checked the balance. Needless to say we found the balance way off. After re-balancing the bike was much better behaved and not really showing any signs of abnormal wear.

It was when I discovered how badly the wheels were balanced that I decided that I would mount and balance the tires myself from now on.

I consider myself to be a well balanced individual and don't need to be putting dynabeads anywhere. I still use the lead weights which I lick & stick like a postage stamp.
