A good friend of mine here in Indiana inherited a restored 1948 Vincent Rapide from his uncle near Toronto. He's at a loss as how to go about getting it transferred legally and physically into the US. The plan is to get it registered and licensed so I can ride it a little.... before going into "storage". Any tips for importing from the CA to the US is greatly appreciated.

I'm told the bike resides in his uncle's living room, where is has been adored and restored over the last 50 years or so. Can't wait to see this1000cc British classic... and MAYBE ride it. No, it's not for sale.

I don't know anything of the legal stuff but I would suggest riding it across the border if at all possible.. Shipping rates across are insane..

Seems like Bill was going to have to pay over $300.00 to get his tire changer shipped.

My brother ran into expensive red tape when he brought a Suzuki Bandit from Canada to the U.S. Do your research. This bike will not qualify for licensing in the U.S. under most modern standards - EPA, mph v. kph speedo dial and more. Your friend might want to look into getting it imported as an antique, rather than a vehicle, or at least as a "Pioneer." I really haven't a clue, but would expect much hassle and paper work. Good luck! Maybe report back how this was ultimately done.

Put it on a Trailer and drive it across.

As long as it meets emission standards for the year it was manufactured 1948, you are good there.

Good Idea Karl.. Me brain isn't up to speed for some reason today :dribble:

Never thought about the obvious answer..

If it doesn't work out (or if someone else wants one...), here's a Black Shadow -- a little more 'get-up-and-go' than a Rapide.
