Thanks for all the useful suggestions and advice. Clearly, there is a lot to consider and research before this would become a full-fledged business.

The idea of renting them sounds appealing. Darn the luck, I might have to move to a beach town to pull that one off.

I don't have to commit any financial resources up front, so I won't be risking anything other than time and effort at this point. We're planning to import 10-20 as a test run later this spring. If that goes well, then I'll jump in deeper with a container.

No plans to quit the day job either (it's just too much fun to quit), this will just be a hobby to make some side cash here and there.

Mikerider, if you're serious you've got first dibs.

uctofeej,

Good luck in your endeavor. Keep us posted.

If you need an interpreter or translator, let me know... :)

Sounds like an excuse to come back to Florida. Of course, there are only 652 places on our beach already renting scooters and small bikes.

Something else comes to mind, just sort of popped in there while I was typing the previous paragraph. All the considerations I've seen so far have been business questions. Is there a market? Where is the market? Will people buy these? What kind of people will buy these? I haven't seen anything about regulatory issues. What are you going to have to comply with to bring these things in? To whom do you have to prove what, and how often? I certainly have no clue there, but maybe somebody here does.

My friend is an importer/exporter. He plans to handle that. Whew! Basically, it breaks down to we pick out what we want in Vietnam, he gets them to our warehouses (and all that entails), then I market and sell.
