Yesterday, I did a little exploring, and missed a major opportunity (and forgot my camera). I took off to do 198 over from Coalinga to King City. Great route! After getting home, having ridden up 101 and 156 to Hollister and back over 152, I discovered TWN's report about Hwy 25. Doh!

So, Sunday, weather permitting, we're planning to go west from Coalinga on 198 to 25 north and then catch 1 back down the coast to dinner at Morro Bay before heading back home.

If anybody's down, we could meet up at I-5 and 198 about 10:00am.

Are you looking at riding 25 all teh way to Hollister, or to Panoche Road (that I have heard is a kick in the butt too)?

As far north as it will go, I assume that's to Hollister. We'll probably add the side trip to Pinnacles just for kicks.

Both of the roads mentioned were part of the initial route of last years Cal24 rally.

Personally I don't care for Panoche, it's kinda goaty, ( and this is coming fron a goat trail explorer ! ). :)

25 / 198 is a gas. ( Done it many times ) If I were up for it I'd meet ya Toe, but I'm out for a few months.

Have you looked at the road through Hunter Ligget to the coast? ( slow & scenic )

You'll need lic., reg, and insurance to get through the gate to cross the military base.

Also Carmel Valley road is a fantastic, ( higher speed than through the H.L . military base ) great alternate route also !!! B)

+1 !!

Haven't done that road on a bike (yet), but have in a couple of sports cars and one rental convertible that I flogged the sh*t out of during a visit to SF a few years ago.

Maybe I'll get back out that way someday :dribble:

Anytime I hear "Hollister", I think of this-

No relation to the discussion, just thought I'd throw that in. Hollister is the home of 1 percenting.

I'm a New Yorker and can even say that Carmel Valley Road is a pisser to ride...We did it a few years back on rented VFR's when we were at WSB at Laguna Seca. That was my first high speed experience with cattle grates on the road....not a whole lot of those on Long Island.

I've heard reports that Hunter Liggett is in not-so-good repair. May wanna wait til the cold patch goes down.

Rad brings another point: The Hollister Rally is no longer officially sanctioned by the town. For all intents and purposes, it's dead...

Did both of these rides last Nov and had a great time. I only saw 2 cars on Carmel Valley and none on the Hunter Liggett / Nacimiento Rd down to PCH. :D

Here are a few shots I took along the way.

This is Nacimiento just before it ends at PCH which is down off to the right

Nice shots FJRmogul, and you right, there's never much traffic on those roads as they're roads that don't really go between congested areas. Even on the Memorial weekend it's a good place to ride.

Once as I crested the costal range on Nacimiento, there was a FJR coming the other way! This was back before 05's were out, probably around fall 04. The couple was from Colorado and had never see another FJR before. He'd never seen radar or powerlets on a bike before and was amazed I had XM hooked up! I told him about the FJR sites, hope he joined up , but damn if I can remember their names :(

My avatar is from an outlook on Nacimiento . :D

Officially postponed, due to life getting in the way, no intercom yet, still a bit cool for Eve's comfort zone. Enough excuses yet?

I'm sure glad nobody signed up to meet us, then the other stuff might have to wait for the commitment of the ride.

We'll definitely be doing this ride ASAP, while the hills are still green and the air is clean. Maybe next month on the 22nd after DST kicks in. Stay tuned and thanks for all the suggestions and great pictures!

If you change you mind, even at the last minute, post up as I'm game for that Sunday ride on 25.

Just designate a time and place to meet as I'd be riding from Bakersfield.

Anxious to get some more miles on my '06. Currently at around 1200 in two weeks. Would have been more, but for the wettest April in my 50+ years in this area.

Dude, that was last month, and we all just got together last Saturday for the makeup ride. Check the ride report threads about "Central Coast Romp" for story and pictures. And keep a closer watch on the forum for upcoming rides. :dribble:
