Not trying to be glib either as everyone is frustrated and as such entitled to popping a cork every once in awhile. I mean look at the suggestions for simply posting a picture.......If we belong to this forum we obviously belong to others as well. I know that I don't have to do anything like what has been suggested in the last few posts to simply post a picture in other forums I belong to. I'll say it again, if the problems here persist I'm afraid an outstanding site is headed for the trash bin.....already I see people aren't posting ride reports, aren't bothering to check as often, aren't offering to post responses to issues folks are having, are jumping ship for the other site.........I'm afraid the Admins frustrations and how they respond to the end users frustrations may shut the place down......I guess I'll continue printing out the good stuff for my notebook before it goes away.....

back on topic.....Dang I hate that you can't post pics Riona cuz I really was looking forward to seeing them but I for one understand your frustrations. Pop a cork off your favorite red or white and count to ten!

Really enjoyed your write-up!

If the jpeg vs jpg is the issue, then we take care of it on user side. Not a big deal to change jpeg extension to jpg. They are the same thing really, but it seems like the site software looks at the extension to figure out if it is a valid file format and doesn't think jpeg is acceptable.

Maybe a pinned post on Ride Reports and Images and Videos on how to post pics etc. With best known methods, if not been done already..

On the keyboard, press the key combination: WinKey + R
In the Run Dialog box that magically appears, type: cmd

Press the Enter key on the keyboard.

Type: dir

Press: Enter

You will see a directory listing. Navigate to the directory where your .jpeg files are located (using the CD -- Change Directory -- command). If you don't know how to use the CD command, type: CD /? and press the Enter key.

When you have navigated to the directory with the .jpeg files. Just type: rename *.jpeg *.jpg

Then press the Enter key on the keyboard. Voilà! Your file-names are all converted from jpeg to jpg. You're done.

Type: exit

Press: Enter

Thanks PuppyChow .... I do remember how to use DOS from the command line ... I learned PC's pre windows and it kinda never left me ...

Trying again with the snake oil / alchemy / voodoo of renaming jpeg to jpg (joint pictures expert group, if anyone cares where the name came from - jpeg is correct, it only got abbreviated to jpg because DOS had a 3 character limit on file extensions .... but I digress only to show that after 30 years in the IT industry I'm not a complete novice about computers .... )

As promised, a few photos (still waiting for the "action shots" from Ducati, these are just background)

We met up the evening before at a local hotel, to be ready for the early start. Corey and I (the two blondes) both have Interceptors.

Waiting to go onto the track for one of our sessions:

Parked up between sessions: Mine is the black interceptor in the foreground. The bikes have lights taped up partly to eliminate distractions, and partly to avoid having glass/plastic all over the track if a wreck happens.

Paying attention in school

One of the few bits of the track visible from the pit lane - the descent from the top of the ridge - those twisties look much worse from the drivers seat ...

Here is the Dyno print-out I mentioned in the Ride Report. Note the "blip" in the power and torque curves around 6,400 rpm. The sensation is that the bike is accelerating smoothly, then you get nothing for a heart beat, then all of a sudden the power is back, but now 10 hp higher. Can't wait for Nels to have it fixed and see what the "after" dyno chart looks like.

The lower line on the Dyno (solid blue line consistently above the dashed red line) indicates that the bike is under fueled and running lean the whole way up the revs. We'll see what happens to power and torque when the fueling is corrected. Hopefully gain a little ...

More when Ducati's photog gets his pictures posted.

OMG it worked !!!

Seems to me that somewhere in the header code to this forum software should be either a parameter file or a parameter block that lists "allowable file extensions" ... an admin who went in and edited that file to include jpeg as well as jpg (and also check that tiff, bmp, gif, png and other common file types are in there) would get my thanks.

And I apologize, its "joint photographic experts group" not "joint pictures expert group" - I was confusing it with the "moving pictures experts group" responsible for the mpeg standard for movies.

Gixxer - good eye to spot the jpeg vs jpg issue

Puppychow - thanks for the reminder on how to use DOS

Bounce - I really didn't mean to chew you out, but I WAS more than a little frustrated

I guess its important to look at what the software is telling us. The error message was "that extension is not allowed" - instead of getting irate, looking to see why the extension wasn't allowed and what extensions are allowed would have been a better diagnostic approach. Trouble is that windows 7 (unlike good old DOS) does its level best to conceal what the file extensions are, and I for one have gotten very blase about the difference between a *.jpg and a *jpeg ....

In truth the forum software should support both, and I hope there is an easy fix by editing a parameter file or parameter block to include both. Meanwhile a "sticky" warning people to adjust extensions to jpg before uploading would be in order.

Certainly the site rendering engine supports both, as seen by the preview pane, its just the bit of code that does a final validation before posting that does the extension check. Give me the source code and I'll fix it for you ...

I did a quick read through of the IPB web site ... the allowable extensions may be settable using the admin console, without having to do a native edit on a parameter file - Bounce - if you don't know how to do this, probably worth posting the question in the IPB forum users forum ...

Win7

Start -> Control Panel -> Appearance -> Folder Options -> View Tab -> Hide Extensions for known file types -> Uncheck.

Thanks MS for making me click several extra things when the old way worked fine.

MS error messages have never been straightforward that I can remember. I resort to pasting the error message into the Chrome search engine now. Easier than trying to figure out what the error message is trying to say. I may end up with a number of possible solutions but that beats my deciphering attempts every time. Even the MS tech support forums offer different solutions for the same error message and not all of their solutions work either.

To be fair to MS (after all, I live in Redmond ...) The error message I'm talking about is an IPB error message (Invision Power Board forum software) not a Microsoft error message

The pictures are up from the track day ...

And yes, I am very upright (particularly compared to Carol on the white Ducati 848 and Cindy on the yellow Yamaha FZ1) but I had to leave room for improvement for the next track day, didn't I ?

You're absolutely right.

We'll switch this forum to SharePoint then. We should have the system fully ported and operational by tomorrow morning....assuming positive testing results are completed this evening. ;)

. It's NOT MONEY! It's not a variety of other things either. Find me an expert in MySQL AND IPB.
Sheesh.....
I posted your request to elance.com (as I've suggested before):

"I need somebody who is an absolute expert in MySQL and IP. Board.

Must have demonstrable EXPERTISE in BOTH.

Propose your Hourly Rate."

In less than an hour I have someone you can do a skype interview with:

"I have more than 5 year’s database administration in Mysql with excellent knowledge in IP. Can you please provide more details? I m available for discussion on Skype as well"

Now this is just the first response and I don't have specific details of your issue and I don't how to determine their skill. It is not my area of expertise. If you have a list of qualifying questions to ascertain their level of expertise, feel free to send them to me and I'll ask this person.

My apologies to Riona for the thread hijack. I think I can speak for all when I say women on bikes is super cool, but women on bikes on the track, well... (insert massively sexually objectifying phrase here).

They said, "IP". That's generic to the company.

Specifically, gauge their expertise in Invision Power Board. Are they able to diagnose issues that appear to be database performance issues--particularly an environment that has been upgraded over the course of 8 years and may have also have have alternate structure due to dead-end add-ons no longer supported.

If they're interested they should send an e-mail to [email protected] with summary of qualifications and reference or two.

Thanks. This is the first ACTUALLY responsive answer to my request ever. Who knew it would be from you. Seriously, thanks for trying. / Matt

And a name change is easier than calling up a Command Window and going stone age on it's ass.
Yes. Try that manually when you have 40-50 photos in a folder that you want to post in a ride report. Some people are just scared shitless of command windows. I deal with them every day (granted UNIX and not DOS, but still..) :)

Command line rocks. I thank MS for bringing me powershell, it's wonders for the work I do. Still love my Unix command line too.

What he said ---

Now that this thread is well and truly hijacked and heading for NEPRT heaven, who remembers Norton Commander - the software tools, not the Motorcycle ....

I do!!! I wasn't in IT then, just a computer geek that got picked on at school.

Noton Commander - Guilty How about Spellbinder - a CPM based WordProcessor followed by MultiMate.and later WordPerfect

Na, I came in at WANG, then Multimate, then a beta copy of Word for Windows 1.0 ... back in the days of Windows 2.0 ... 1987 ish
