This is my new hi tech front end lifting device. For those of you that are reluctant to jack up on the exhaust pipes with a 2x4 across them, add these 2 spacers and line them up with the oil drain plug/tang and the leg sticking out on the opposite side of the motor. Use floor jack under middle of 2x4 and lift. You are lifting on the motor now, not the pipes.

This is my high tech front end lifting tool in action. This is from the right side looking forward. This clears the exhaust by about 1/4" and is lifting on the 2 "feet" on the bottom of the engine. That's a vent hose hanging down in front of the spacer block.

With my carpentry skills I could probably knock this together in a weekend. ;)

Seriously, nifty idea. I'm not really that worried about lifting under the pipes, but this is so easy, why not?

Wouldn't the pipes be stronger than those two little aluminum tabs? According to the Yamaha factory rep I spoke to at the Austin MotoGP, it's perfectly fine to raise the front by putting a block of wood & a jack under the headers. Just my thoughts.

I always use the pipes. Since day 1. You will NOT hurt the pipes.

Some years back, someone on this forum had made the exact same setup, and I made one for my use. It works great. And, those tabs are cast aluminum, and pretty damn sturdy. I'm sure they could be broken in shear, if you hit them with a very large mallet, but using the tab in compression won't damage them in the least. Whenever I change the front tire, I use this caveman bracket and my floor jack, then put the bottom of the forks in some jack stands. I also have a black-pipe setup that I use with ratchet straps if I want to keep the forks clear, like for removal. Maxed out my carpentry skills making the wooden assembly, and felt darn proud when I was done.

I made the same setup last year and have used it each time I raise the front end. It works well for me. Made one mistake when I made the black pipe rack to support the bike. went by memory while at home depot and I got all the pieces but in 1/2 inch diameter instead of the 3/4 inch. It flexes too much under the weight of the FJR. Will have to replace it with the 3/4. Just have to figure out what to do with the old 1/2 inch model, lol.

I just had my front end off the ground for 4 weeks, with just a plain 2x4 on top of my hydraulic lift, whilst I shipped my front end to saw no KFG. No dents. But I did also use the "led pipe stand" as a back up for when the hydraulic slowly released its gases while I was at work.
