I got the gen 1 fz1 mirrors for my 06 fjr. Did a search for installation but could not find anything. Is it as simple as removing the black panels on each side, and is that simple? Any assistance would be appreciated.

You may find that the metal spacer/inserts the mirror mounting studs (I'm hesitant to use "mounting studs" when Barry's reading.....) pass through may be too long.

IIRC, on the Gen II bikes, the inserts must be popped out and ground shorter or they hold the mirror base from sitting flush with the fairing.

I think some have posted that it is sometimes difficult to get them out....patience is your friend...and it's worth the effort.

The mounting bolts for the FZ1 mirrors are shorter than the OEM mirrors. What you need to do is find a thin piece of rubber or plastic, cut it out to the shape of the base and make a spacer...Just so there's no obvious open space between the fairing and the bottom of the mirror.

It's pretty easy to do, and the results are phenomenal.

I installed the FZ1 mirrors without any modification. There is a small gap between the fairing and the rubber boot. I don't mind the gap, it allows any moisture to escape. (a positive spin.)

I did this mod after breaking my stock mirror. As you've discussed an easy install, but I'm a little annoying at how long these stalks are. Anyone figure out how to modify the swivel stop on these mirrors so they can be moved inward some and stay put?

Some of us are normal sized rather than being diminutive so we appreciate being able to actually see around our wide shoulders and arms.

When the mirrors need to be narrowed (i.e., sharing lanes at a signal) the FZ mirrors fold much easier than the OEM FJR mirrors.

Same here. The gap doesnt bother me in the least.

Easy off. Easy on.

I preferred the stock mirrors with the Multivex glass added .... but I am, apparently, not normal sized.

The long stalks is exactly the point. Sets the mirrors wider so you see mirror stuff in them instead of elbows. ;)

Second benefit, if you're looking at passing through a gap, if the mirrors pass, the bags will pass.

Well mirrors are installed but I would not say it was simple. Replaced the spacers with smaller ones, haven't ridden the bike yet to see if there are any vibration issues, did not use the rubber gasket on top of the fairing as the rubber from the mirrors were snug around it. Turns out when I broke the mirror(hit a turkey buzzard and the mirror popped out) something in there is bent so the mirror stalk doesn't allign like it did before. I could have just left the other mirror on and not blown half the day, but all is good. The mirrors look good. Will ride tomorrow and see how functional they are. The left side went on alot easier than the right. Thanks all for your advice.
