I totaled an '05 K1200LT last Dec while insured with Geico. They paid off in full within 3 weeks. I was very impressed with Geico's service but not with the sheriff's Lt who investigated the accident. He listed my actions as promimate cause of the accident on the report (claimed passing two vehicles was illegal in Texas, couldn't/wouldn't quote the statute.) And the Gieco adjuster took his word for it. BTW, no citations were issued.

Fastforward to insurance renewal time. You guessed it, rates went UP by about 75%. I have my '04 FJR and '98 KLR on the same policy, have multiple discounts. But with the accident surcharge, I'm lookiing at over $2,000 a year for the three bikes (you east coast guys will probably say "that's all?")

So I checked out Progressive (have had them in the past) and found some interesting stuff. Yes, I could get coverage for less money. Also less coverage (20/40/15 vs 50/100/25 for example). But the real kicker was the cost for collison for the Beemer and the FJR: Geico wants $466 for the Beemer and $350 for the FJR while Progressive wants $196 for the Beemer and $596 for the FJR. What's wrong with this picture??? I'm sticking with Geico.

Russ,

I moved the bikes (R1150RSA, `05 FJR, `01 SV650) to Dairyland from Progressive several years ago. I use an independent agent in Fort Worth and they shop around for me each year. Oddly enough, Progressive has been the best deal on the cages for several years, but not on the bikes.

Check Dairyland.

$275 a year for full coverage on my FJR with 100/300/50 and 250 deductible on everything AND $3k coverage of accessories standard.

I've had both Dairyland and Progressive before, and when I moved here from Phoenix, checked out everyone. Geico was the lowest. And as I said, great service after the wreck. I'll check Dairyland again but the 'chargeable accident' will undoubtedly hurt. I just wonder if they would find it, since no citations were issued, if I just failed to mention the wreck?

Insurance agengies have their own database that is shared between them, citation or no citation. I believe that on autos, any claim over 1000 dollars flags and stays 3 yrs. Motos are probably similar.

Dairyland - $466.00 a year - 34yrs - no accidents or claims

Wagman

Dudes, check out allstate. They are giving away motorcycle coverage right now.

I just switched and am paying 296 a year for full coverage with a 250 dollar deductable. I do have car and homeowner discounts but hell, that is only 100 dollars more a year than what I was paying progressive for just comp with a 500 dollar deductable.

Worth a call.

I had my FZ-1 with Progressive and the rates were great, even with one ticket.

When I got my FJR in April I called Progressive to re-up and they were the highest. I called around and several of the companies were basing rates on displacement and lumping the FJR with the Hayabusa. It was impossible to tell the insurance people that this bike is a sport touring bike with saddlebags, etc. As soon as they heard 1300 cc, it was over.

I called pretty much every company and had pages of quotes as high as $3000 a year full coverage.

My best rate was with USAA, who in the past was way too high. Currently paying $600 a year, full coverage in LA and now my record is clean. Keep calling, shame Dairyland does not cover California

Houston, TX (Harris Co)

39 yrs old

clean driving record

1 auto claim in last 3 yrs - for vandalism & stereo theft

50/100/25 250 deductible

50/100/25 250 deductible - non/underinsured

Allstate, Geico, and Dairyland all quoted around $1250/yr

Progressive quoted $1290/yr

Anyone in Houston in similar situation finding a better deal?
