Insuring 3 bikes is cheaper than 2

Another Progressive policy holder here, for several years. Bikes only. I also noticed the three bikes are cheaper than two, so I just make sure that I always own three bikes!! Besides, that's all I can fit comfortably in the garage and still get SWMBO's car in there.

The shocker for me was when I added my son to the policy as a second rider. At the time he was ~21, had been riding dirt bikes since about 12, and just taken the MSF BRC and got his MC endorsement. I expected a huge increase on my policy, but the difference was less than a hun-do. Wut? :huh:

OK, Progressive it is then...

I called to renew my annual with Progressive along with adding some coverage (roadside, bump up uninsured motorist, etc). Because I wanted to move from a previous local carrier who used Progressive to USAA who also uses Progressive, I decided to call for assistance.

I referenced the coverage of the online quote. The lady give me a verbal quote that is close to double the online!?! I laughed in frustration.. She has no idea I am looking at a price online. When I mention the price on my screen, she goes into the song and dance.. I tell her I don't care much why, I just know which of the 2 prices I prefer.

She starts to ask about the discount list.. She asked none of this in the quote interview... End result She was still 60+ a year (approx 15%) higher than the online quote both using USAA umbrella coverage, she had no idea why.. I wonder if it's a built in (customer service) increase?

Do not "assume" you will get the same quote with a call that you would online.

I recently checked to see if insuring three bikes would be cheaper than the outrageous rate I was quoted (online USAA) for insuring two that others are experiencing. It wasn't. : ( It went up significantly from two bikes to three, but not near as much as from one bike to two.

Friggin insurance *******s.
