I wonder what happens if one of them catches on fire? I guess they rely pretty heavily on the sprinklers.

Looks cool. I wonder how long it takes to get your car out of there. If I lived in a city where land was so valuable that they had to resort to this kind of parking I would probably not own a car.

I actually think that's the VW plant, not an actual parking garage. Notice none of the cars have tags on them..

Here ya go it's the glass Phaeton plant..

Did it with large boats (25-37' cruisers) when I was a boat wrench. Nice way to store them actually, air space costs money these days.

I think it's a great idea. Considering how much covered parking is in some cities, this would work out well. At the same time, such cities usually have a pretty good mass trans system, so living in the city and commuting doesn't require a car. Rent one for those times you want to drive out of the city. Saves money on maintenance, parking, insurance, and registration. I know many people in the D.C. area that do just that.

There was a system in Hawaii that used a traversing and lift elevator to put cars in spaces. Actually saved more space than the unit pictured.

I watched them run it for awhile one evening sitting on the deck of my hotel room.

Glad I only spent one night there.

..hope they don't suffer earthquakes!

Whoa, backin up one of those cars onto that little ramp thingy gotta take a little nerve! Its a long way down.

By the time I'm preparing for a dirt nap :rip:, I want one of these to store all my motorcycles.

Of course, I'm still waiting on my first one :hyper: , so I have time to plan...

Saw this on TV recently, it's a big place and not just that building there are others restaurants play areas etc, you pick you car and while you wait they go and get it and tart it up and away you drive...I think they sell about 100 cars a day there!

Cheers

Not sure how friendly these things will be for motorcycles. I struggled to find urban parking due to these goofy elevator contraptions for storing cages. Tokyo is loaded with things like that (though not as pretty as the german factory one), and thus motorcycle parking is often relegated to bicycle areas or other less desirable places like that.

sucks.

hope you don't have to wait all that long for your ride tho...!
