On a recent ride the bike was behaving normally with warm idle at around 1100 RPM.

On a roundabout I felt the bike was 'pushing' and noted that minimum RPM was about 2000 RPM with the throttle closed. I did try the throttle to make sure it was in the fully closed position.

The 2000 RPM warm idle remained for the rest of that part of the ride (probably about 30 mins).

I carried on until I reached a convenient place, parked up and stopped the engine. I carried out some basic checks to make sure the idle adjust was in it's 'normal' position and functioned the throttle to ensure that it snapped closed on release. All looked OK.

I left the bike for about 15 mins and then re-started. As soon as it warmed up everything was back to normal with warm idle at ~1100 RPM.

It has remained like that for the last couple of rides.............

Has anyone else experienced anything like that?

I don't think there is a 'choke system' that can be 'kicked on' per sey. I believe there is a wax motor type of fuel enrichment system to increase the cold start idle.

Hi, I've now worked on 4 FJR's with such a fault.

The first of such faults was with my mates Gen 1, story here.

Has happened with 2 Gen 1's and 2 Gen 2's, symptoms occurred after coolant changes.

One occasion a few months after a change.

Another occasion where someone hid a fault with a clogged coolant pipe, for the wax motor, return pipe into the radiator.

Previous owners or their mechanics masked the original fault by either adjusting the the fast idle valves and/or the throttle stops on the TB's.

I don't believe any of that applies in this case. The coolant has not been changed or topped up in almost a year. I haven't been under the tank since about January this year. I just haven't done anything other than ride for a long time..........

Perhaps a vacuum leak for a while somewhere..A thought...

I cannot imagine something other except the throttle cables or a vacuum leak somewhere..

The last time this happened on the Forum ;) it turned out to be the cruise control attachment on the throttle body was loose/out of position. Any critters storing nuts in your FJR?

Cables were lubed last winter but as I said in the original post the throttle snapped shut on checking and the RPM would not drop even with me trying to close the throttle.

Since the 'interesting' experience the bike has continued to operate normally.

The only cruise control fitted is my right wrist! As for the nuts.................
