I was told by a BMW (fanatic) that of ALL the touring bikes the FJR hits its pegs and lean limits first. That is first before an RT, Goldwing and an ST. Anyone bored enough to search the specs out and post em, cause I'm not. :lol:

I forgot

The BMW Gt is supposed to have such a better lean angel that the bags are the first thing to touch. Hence the addition of bag protectors about to come out.

No way! I learned in the Army not to volunteer for anything....

Unless someone checks the physics and measurements on it, I'd think it's a good thing to have a bike that it's easy to ride hard enough to drag the pegs on.

Dragging the hard parts first doesn't seem like good design.

You're not going to get this information from any spec sheets.

I don't know about big touring bikes like the Wing, but I would agree with this assessment within the FJR's peer group (RT, GT, ST, etc.). The FJR's achilles heel from a handling standpoint is cornering clearance. It's not very good.

Concur, but I can tell you from personal experience that a GL1800 Goldwing with OEM suspension will hit its pegs before an FJR.

I wished that I would have known this before I bought this piece of crap FJR. I probably spend 3 - 4 hours a day dragging pegs. The rest of its features on the bike are totally irrelevant such as overall performance, comfort, styling, etc. I think that I need to trade it in on a unicycle for some serious cornering without the pegs dragging.

 
I haven't dragged a peg in over a year, and even then, only occasionally when two up and prior to taking the Lee Parks clinic. If I start, I figure it'll be time for a new rear shock. Nowadays, I figure draggin' pegs is putting me farther past the safe zone than I want to be, at least on the street. My #1 priority is to finish each trip in my garage. YMMV

I have plenty of issues but, for me, cornering clearance isn't one of 'em.

My bike drags its pegs on the sidestand.... Until it falls over! :blink:

 
Your comparison is true. One reason is a more comfortable seat-to-peg distance than some in the comparable list. The other reason, that Yamaha could have done better, is narrower side-to-side peg placement (esp. comparing my buddy's ST1300).

So the FJR is designed to drag peg feelers before it drags saddle bags and this is considered poor design? Hmmm....

I tested it, I rode my wing (all damm year) and then bought an FJR (for more ground clearance) I drag my wing ALL THE DAMM TIME and have yet to but slightly touch my Feejers pegs.

Reasearch done and done!!

It just wouldn't be fair to compare all the peg draggin I have done on my brothers GoldWing. After all, it is my brother's bike, not MY FJR. You know, "ride it like you ain't got a dime in it".

When it comes to the brother's GW, it's soooo true!
