Soooo, Richard, will that replace your laptop or will this be in addition?

Will it upload your pictures to the web?

Additional memory (stick or separate card)?

What about your videos while on the road?

Ok Fairlaner, did you have an iPod Touch before? I have the

Touch and love it, I suppose I would like the iPad too.

How big of a pain is it to carry around?

It seems like it will be easy to carry around, not sure on the video upload yet as the card adapter is not available until the end of the month.

Seems way easier to use and way cater than my net book, not sure it will replace my 17inch laptop though.

Is easier to use while sitting in front of the tv........

So how do you like this combo? iPad 3G (with integrated GPS card) + Yamaha tank bag.

I haven't purchased one of the turn-by-turn apps yet, but I think this is going to be really cool. There is talk that Google is going to release a turn-by-turn navigation app for Google maps soon as they have for the Droid. The touch screen works beautifully right through the plastic on the tank bag. Zoom in & out on a map with a simple pinch. Drag & move with ease. It's impressive.

So far, 10 hours after having this thing, we're loving it. I'm sure next gen devices will be better (think iPod version 1.0). But I believe tablets are going to be world-changing. Say "so long" to college textbooks.

I don't see this displacing the Zumo 550 just yet because for water-proofness, but could happen with a proper case. If I were Garmin, Magellan or Tom Tom, I'd be nervous right now. There are perfectly adequate nav apps online for iPad for $29 right now. And Google is now "Walmarting" all kinds of software companies with their offerings.

To HappyPuppy's point, you're going to see car mounts and motorcycle mounts for this thing within weeks, I'm guessing. I'd really, really like to see one for our boat - waterproof and robust. Nav and weather apps will displace very expensive marine devices with ease.

Co-Pilot has a Ipad version coming in May for GPS needs. I use it on my iphone in the car and it works well. My son has one he picked up with the academic discount for taking notes. They are an interesting gadget, but still too $$ for my use. If the Wifi version tethered to the iPhone that would be cool.

I got my 3G iPad this afternoon. I hit up the apple store just off Stevens Creek in San Jose. The place was packed! There must have been 30 store employs on the floor. This weekend you can bet that all vacations were canceled for these people.

It fits well in my tank bag, the touch screen works through the map case plastic. It's a bit hard to see in bright daylight, but manageable. My bags connection tank bag mounts on a cleat bolted to the gas cap ring. I have the power connection built into that ring. When I turn the key on the power is still off. It only comes on with the headlights after I fire the engine. I bought a charger that plugs into the power plug inside the tank bag. In practice, when I walk up to the bike I clip the tank bag in place, turn the key on and fire up the beast. The iPad immediately turns on and waits for me to slide the unlock icon.

The next thing I want to do is integrate it into my Starcom system. I'm not sure if it will be via cords ala gamin, or the Starcom Bluetooth module I have under the passenger seat. Looks like I have some work to do tomorrow.
