You guys (LD riders) are supposed to be thicker-skinned than that.
You think my response was from thin skin? I've learned long ago to call BS when I see it...especially when it's attached to a newbie with 10 posts.

As for the other stuff...you probably would have more luck if you post on the actual Iron Butt forum instead of an FJR forum with a secondary LD area. Kneebone, Agins, and other IBA staff rarely come over here.

I hope you end up getting an actual FJR....it's a great bike and great forum! ;)

Oak,

If you are truly serious about this, here is a rally for you. Hopeless Rally Motorcycle entries will be limited to under 500cc, under 45bhp, or at least 30 years old (entries must meet at least one of the three), Let us know how you do.

Oooooh, have to mark that one down for next year. No way I can get the Bandit ready to go that fast.

I've got an idea for a ride but it doesn't involve the IBA or even the FJR in any way shape or form. Just *HUGE* on adventure - and more than a little bit of lunacy. Maybe next summer. Depends on how the planets align.

I like the idea. Sort of like the hopeless class in the IBR. Possibly use the IBR guidelines for a go-by? Notwithstanding ScooterG's comment, I think it would be easy to enforce. Specify a year cutoff, say 1980 for example to almost ensure you have carbs and not FI, then also specify that nothing can be on the bike that wasn't available from the showroom floor. Then have a witness verify the machine is in that condition. Easy peasy.
Very good - at least some of you get it! And you are correct; it would be easy to enforce. (I do not undertand what about this is difficult to enforce.) Much of the IBA 'certification' process is based on the honesty principle, already. Witness signatures and receipts can be easily faked if someone is so inclined (which I don't beleive many people in the IBA are doing that--falsifying the information). I beleive most of us are honest in the LD community...and those who are dishonest tend to not be members of the LD community.

Not difficult to enforce--given the honesty of most in the LD community. Just add 'Old School' requirements (that the motorcycle must satisfy) in order for the ride certificate to have the '_-OS' designation attached.

Wanna fill us in? (I'm curious to know what kind of ride you're thinking of putting on).

Ignacio,

YES...I think your response was from thin skin. You say you "...learned long ago to call BS when I see it...especially when it's attached to a newbie with 10 posts...", Well, this is one case where you're mistaken. I am a "newbie" on this post because I am trying to figure out whether my next bike should be an FJR (or an ST1300--those are my options, IMO). I do 1K+ days. I am in the IBA. I've been riding 30+ years with about 500K miles under my belt (which may not be as long, or as many as you have-- but that still puts me out of the 'BS' catagory. A year ago, I ran into the back of a stalled sportscar on the I-210 in L.A.. I was doing about 70 mph. The sportscar was doing '0'. An SUV blocked my sight...them bailed, leaving me high and dry. A week in a coma. A month in ICU. LIver, kidney, spleen, bladder, urethra, upper intestine (all lacerated), five broken ribs, collapsed lung, water on brain, broken left tib/fib. I am just learning to walk again. BS? I hope to be back in the saddle before years end.

My idea about 'Old School' designation was meant in all earnestness. Again, it was not meant as a put-down to anyone in the IBA (again, I am in the IBA-- why would I try to 'poop' on it?-- I am not trying to do that).

My original post started in the 'new members' section - where I make it CLEAR that I do NOT own and FJR but that I joined this forum MAINLY to learn more from those who already own FJRs so that it can help me to decide whether I want my next m/c to be an FJR or and ST1300. That is still my main focus here.

WHy not let's say we call a 'truce' to this issue I have raised about 'Old School' IBA designations. It was not my intention to stir things up. I will move to the IBR and LDRiders sites to try to promote this idea.

I appeciate your and everyone else's passion...even if we disagree on some things.
