Ok How many of you Great Lakes riders have called it a season? I rode to work today and didn't get to cold to call it done yet ( though I ain't going to follow any salt trucks in). I can't belive the reactions from the guys at work, I mean, we ride snowmobiles when it's colder than this... why not bikes?

Sure I'm not gonna ride when the snow gets deep or the roads get Icy, but, why stop now?

I don't stop until the snow sticks to the roads and the salt comes out. Your right about the guys at work, most think I'm touched. Only ones that pretty much take it in stride are the snowmobilers.

They know its not the same though because of the difference in machine stability. A lot of people equate cold with slick, even on the driest of days.

I did a nice 150 mile ride last Saturday up to AuGres and the Huron shoreline.

Upon my return home, I changed the oil, filter and coolant, and called it a season. Wednesday morning the roads were sheet ice here, and the salt trucks were out in full force.

Call me what you want, but with the amount of salt spread on the roads, (my black car is white up to the windows) and as fjrchooser states, cold = slick, I'm done for the year. Hitting a pile of salt in a corner would be bad news.

You'all have a nice winter and I'll catch you in March.

Here in central MN, I put the FJR away for the season last weekend. It rained, then snowed. Got only .3 inches of snow, but the salt trucks were out in full force. Will not ride any more after salt trucks are out. Salt and the aluminum frame do not mix.

Yep-- Thats the determing factor when us guys here in central Florida put our bikes up for the winter also, when the salt trucks come out! mike

Yeah The salt pretty much ends it for the fjr, I will ride the xt 600 till I fall on my arse, then I'll cage it till spring <_<

Hey escapefjr where you located? I'm between Flint and Lansing.

Were you in the Oscoda area july 4th weekend? I was up there on my bike and saw two fjrs heading south outa town '03 and an '04. I was out walking or I'd have caught up with em as I haven't seen a buch of 'em around and am always curious to see what other guys think of them.

@joker, I'm in the tri-cities area 'bout three miles from MBS. Wasn't in Oscoda over the July 4th weekend.... Until March, I'm riding a '04.
