Is there a non-gaudy way to show a club emblem on the bike?

I want to sport my riding club's emblem, but I prefer wearing a bright orange vest everywhere I go (or my bright yellow tourmaster jacket). Neither of which is conducive to displaying a club emblem on the back. ALSO, I want to have the ability to NOT display it should I get asked not to by another club while out alone, or just going on the military base.

So initially, I thought of maybe a magnet. And then, I realized that a bike is NOT a car and the saddlebags and topbox are plastic and NOT metal.

Then I thought of a flag (much like those who have US flags or POW/MIA flags in parades). Except those tend to be on cruisers and I would feel like that kid with the big orange safety flag on his bicycle if I were to mount one of those behind me. And until I become a much better rider, and can humble others with my riding skills DESPITE a flag like that, I feel it'd be like putting a target on me as I pull up to my club or bike night at our local watering hole that says, "hey guys, here's a fresh one for you to release your witty putdowns on". Not that everyone would do that, but I'm sure there are some, and there's no reason to walk around with a neon arrow pointing at me (until I get those skills and can show them what a guy with a flag on a ST bike can do!)

So any ideas? Is there a way to get a quickly switched out license plate cover with a spot for a sticker? Or maybe some sort of removable decal made for our windshields? Just lookin' for ideas. Thanks.

The way i read that, He wants to put a club logo on, And not a club logo flag.

BTW, I know alot of PGR riders in my area, And most are on Harleys. You and toecutter are the only active PGR members i know of that fly the colors on a FJR. Good job guys

It's not that I mind flags, it's just I don't know how well others will see the flags go over. I mean, they seem to be a staple on cruisers, but how will it be taken for an FJR to ride with a flag on it?

I mean, wouldn't a rider get weird looks and treated differently if they wore a red leather race suit while on they're electraglide? Or an FJR rider getting off with leather chaps with fringe and a leather jacket and brain bucket or bandana (if they're not wearing a helmet)? It's just gear, and protects well, but it's not "accepted". I'm worried about riding somewhere, parking my bike, and not being "accepted" for having flags on the back of a sportier looking bike. No need to stand out any more than I have to.

Try not to care so much about what others think & do what the hell that you want? Flying a flag sounds fine to me.

Well, I guess I can just throw self-image to the wind. Now to look up ways to mount them . . .

google is our friend: it's ?????? site:fjrforum.com

so I did a : flags site:fjrforum.com

I remember a thread on PGR flags and Feejers

Here it is...

copy/paste from my post there:

I purchased a GL1500 chrome handle that I use as a small rack bolted on the top of my Yammy matching trunk.

(yes, I went through the stress and trauma to bring myself to drill 4 holes in my trunk lid)

I know, I know, Goldwing item on my FJR - a darkside move, fur sur, and chrome <head hung low>

Wingstuff.com - BB2376 GL1500, GL1800 Trunk Handle 1 17.95 17.95

I then mounted 3 chrome flag mounts from JC Whitney with 11" masts

I then mounted 3 car sized 12x10" flags (from left to right: PGR, American, Never Forget) on the 12" chrome masts

Works well for me and so far they are staying there perminently. However, for traveling, I did purchase a Yammy OEM

cover for the bike and I haven't tried it now that I have the flags back there. The mounts do have a fold down feature,

and pretty quickly with an allen wrench, the masts only can be removed.

Well since then (never used the mama Yammy cover) I purchased the Nelson Rigg xlarge half cover and just cover the top of the bike from windshield to back of passenger seat. All the important stuff stays dry and easy on, easy off, stores in little fanny pack size thingy.

Are you having these issues because you are riding a Japanese bike? I wouldn't worry so much. My favorite leather jacket has a large POW/MIA patch on the rear. That hits close to home, so I display my support. I have only ever ridden Japanese bikes, because no American MC company makes a bike suitable for my needs. No one has ever said anything negative to me, and I figure the only ones that would are people too stupid to listen to. As said before, don't worry about everyone else. Make yourself happy.

Well, I've heard (maybe it's just superstition) that riders or certain groups can be a fickle lot. And if I'm gonna be riding cross-country, I want the ability to be able to remove anything making my FJR stand-out when I pull up to hotels, restaurants, or just ride down the road and pass some clubs up. More of a precaution than "embarrassed". I mean, I wouldn't walk through downtown Trenton, NJ in a 3-piece suit. So I don't want to be riding around, exploring backroads, and turn the corner coming up on Rattlesnake Biker Bar, with a bunch of drunk HOG riders while having flags attached to a sport-tourer. I get enough looks stopping at certain bike-shops owning that bike to begin with, let alone anything to make it stand out even more (sad, but true)

I might go the route in that other thread. Attach the goldwing flag holder to my topbox. I can always disconnect any flags and stuff them IN the topbox if I want to avoid it.

Is a good thing your club doesn't believe; "the club comes first".

What emblem are we talking about anyway?

??

If you belong to a ride group that has 'colors' I would just display the emblem and be done with it. As a member of CMA, I can tell you that those tough bikers respect you for your colors. If it were a Pagans vs Outlaws thing, then well I can see the delima. If it is not controversial, I have seen that you get respect from those fringe groups and not anamosity. Now, removing things that can be easily removed to guard against theft at a motel over night is a different story all together. Like asked above, what is the emblem/group? That may help responses. Just my .02.

I say that if you can survive Baghdad 09-10, then you can fly any damn flag you wanna fly...and I'll ride anywhere to meet you within 500 miles of Chitown to buy you a beer to personally thank you for your service in a harsh environment.

lol. I might take you up on that offer depending on what base I get sent to next!
But my club is nationwide and doesn't have colors. It's "Southern Cruisers" (SCRC). A very peaceful, family oriented club. However they recently posted a thread showing which states have SCRC chapters and where we should exercise 'caution' on wearing/displaying our patch. So I'm exercising caution.

I'll probably just mount them for the group rides, and keep a US flag up there permanently.

Sad but true with regards to areas where caution must be exercised while flying "colors"

Certain groups of individuals may see this as an invasion of a rival "group" with unfortunately, predictable results.

We have three such "groups" within a twenty mile radius of this area and I've heard of a few incidents of harassment of persons flying or wearing "legitimate" recognition of their organization..

That's freaking nutz! So, those bikers for Jesus guys are getting their colors cut off if they wander into the Left Hand?
