So with my financial situation cleared up and able to keep my bike, I have decided to send my seat off to Russell to get my seat done. They say it will be about a 3 week turnaround (or so im hoping)...in the meantime, it is wayyyyy too nice outside to not be riding, and my truck runs through gas like its free! So I decided to try this firm pillow from wal mart as a seat. I went for a nice 150 mile ride through the mountains of southern NM and if not for my previous family obligations, I had no intention of stopping. The pillow is not only possible to ride on, but comfortable. In fact, I am going as far as to say it is much more comfortable than the stock seat. After about 90 miles on that thing I was ready to take a break. Granted, I was not moving around in the saddle, but it did serve the purpose. My wife swears there must be a law that says you can not ride a motorcycle on a pillow, meanwhile, there are people in NM driving cars with no windshields So... if you are in a similar situation as myself, and have no problem with being laughed and pointed at on the road by others, this pillow is a very feasible fix for a few weeks while waiting. Here is a nice little picture so I can share my embarrassment with the rest of the motorcycle community.

What's sad is how well it speaks to the level of discomfort of the FJR's OEM seat. Seems like Yamaha must have a contract with aftermarket custom seat businesses never to address this.

Yeah the wait is a pain but when you get that new Russell you will find the wait was worth it.

What would be better? Have a bike with a intolerable seat and ride in pain after 150 miles each ride. Do not ride for three weeks but after that never ride with a sore butt again.

Hang in there and enjoy other activities for a while. Counting the actual number of days you would have been riding is better than saying 3 weeks.

Nice looking FJR.

Good looking FJR, interesting color theme for the rims.

Black pillow case and a couple well placed straps would mask the pillow nicely...new trend?!?

Enjoy the new seat!

Thanks. I wanted something different for the rims. They were powder coated black new, and the red and aluminum colors seemed different. I may end up changing it again sooner or later. I painted them myself, so easily changeable. Just gotta make it a few more weeks!

The pillow is a great idea, but I'd use something to tie it down so it doesn't fly away when you stand on the pegs. It will probably not be a good thing if you get caught in a heavy rain, either.

Just wondering, does you butt fall asleep after a little while on that pillow?

Let them laugh Scott. At least you're riding! I would send you my stock seats but, I see you have everything under control.

And NO!!!!! You're not getting your Saddlemens back!! :))

did that once on my FJ1200 with a bath towel and had the same results-quite comfortable..and much tricker looking than your pillow. Like the red wheels..

Never have to worry about the rain here. It rains just a few times a year, and it is usually in July. Hopefully I will have my new seat by then. It is quite ridiculous, but i kinda like it that way. It makes me laugh everytime i look at it. I will post before and after pics once i get my Russel. And Majic, I do kinda miss my Saddlemen. Still treating you well I hope. I would recommend getting a cover for it though being in your neck of the woods.

I've put about 1000 miles on them. They are waaaay better than the stock seats. My butt used to start aching in about an hour. I've done three hours on them and NO ache! Love it! You mentioned that they've never been rained on with you. They've been rained on Plenty here. Rained on by the bucket. Once the rain stops, they are dry in minutes! I'm diggin' the seats very much! :))

WTF dude

? What's next, a trailer with the couch from your front porch to tote the ol' lady to WalMart for oatmeal cookies and chocolate milk

? Geez man.............

Of course I jest, actually I'm impressed. Why the hell not, as long as yer good with it and can joke along with the folks you meet along the way. I still got my stock front seat from my '07 laying around doing nothing if you want to borrow it for a few weeks.

I'll say it's not a good look. (photoassist). The RDL seat will rock your world.

Mike I sat on an Air Hawk and it is not even close to being a solution IMHO.

Tom. Thank you for the photo assist. When I try to do that it puts the whole huge picture on the screen. Not just the nice sized fitted one. If you get a chance mind telling me how you have conquered that little conundrum of mine?

How many more miles would you say you can ride with that Airhawk versus the stock seat before you get assburn??

Thanks.
well, I did my SS1000 with it and am convinced I could not without it

my butt would hurt in 200mi stock, and I commonly ride 600-700 miles to get to the Smokies from New Orleans in a day. I've never ridden a stock seat, my Sargeant is nothing more than a platform, a wider platform than stock, for my 14" cruiser medium airhawk. I find I cannot/will not ride without a properly inflated airhawk.

I very important to be barely inflated...blow air in, with valve cracked open, place hand flat on middle to pad and push gently down until hand is against seat with very little air in the pad...only the outside edges inflated balloon like. Then get on and ride with your *** 1/8" off the seat.
