Jeeebus.... someone send that man a seat to use in the interum....

I'd send my extra out but I got a superior Gen 1 Seat and those just don't fit on the inferior Gen 2 Bikes....

Good choice on the Russel... I got a drivers seat from a member here, its a bit too hard at the front of the pocket but it has single handedly fixed my issue with lower back pain I suffer from when riding too long. Day Long is a great discription....

What's sad is how well it speaks to the level of discomfort of the FJR's OEM seat. Seems like Yamaha must have a contract with aftermarket custom seat businesses never to address this.
I'd say the comfort of a stock seat is subjective. I road on my stock seat for well over 60,000 miles before changing it out for a Sargent that I find to not be terribly more comfortable. If the Sargent didn't happen along, thinking I would've been fine with the stocker.

I was perfectly happy with my stock seat and rode many 1000+ mile days on it before I found a used Russell for sale. I have to say that I would never go back to the stock seat and the first thing I'll do when I replace my '05 FJR is order a Russell for the new bike.

OK, the pillow was a ploy to show off those nice looking Red Rims.

I really thought it was going to be a picture of a square couch pillow or something. That big white fluffy bed pillow really rumbled my gut from laughter.

I really appreciate the offers to borrow the stock seat guys. I will take up someone on their offer if Russell proves to take longer than the prescribed 3 week turnaround. Thanks again!

I guess it was made for me. I've done two BBG's and a 32-hour rally on the stock FJR seat and never had a complaint. After both BBG's I grabbed shut-eye for a few hours and then rode roughly 400-500 miles home. I loved the OEM seat.
The Super Tenere seat is pretty similar to the FJR's. Once I get some risers, I'll be able to take better advantage of its extra width.

Everyone's got a different butt and a different tolerance for *** fire, I suppose.

I could barely get to my tank's reserve indicator during my FJR's first 5,000 miles (all on the OEM seat). Unlike some others, a Sargent seat has satisfactorily gotten me through long days without undue discomfort, the longest of which for me are about 700 miles. The best remedy for me, though, has been going to LD Comfort riding underwear a few years back.

Neither Blackbird ever gave me the same level of *** fire on their OEM seats as the FJR did. And my KLR is the worst seat of the three, though it's not *** fire so much as a lack of support that makes me ache in my lower back and hips after half a day.

I did my SS1K on the stock seat. Tying in an 850 mile day followed by a 750 mile day made me realize that I couldn't put in a third if need be. That said, the stock seat on the FJR is TONS better than either a corbin or Sargent on my FZ1 and better than the corbin I had on my FJR. The corners on the Sargent were trying to saw my legs off, so I'll take *** burn over dismemberment any day.

I want to get a Russel though, but I'll need a second set of stock seats in order to do so. I've sat on the Russell's and they'd not be good for daily commuting with my short legs. So I need a stock commuting set and a touring set. Now That'd be the ticket. First I need money though. Dang, it always comes down to that.

Heres the finished product. 1100 miles on the pillow and almost 4 weeks later I now have my Day Long Seat.

Rode 180 miles on it today. I know its not long enough to really tell how it will hold up for an all day event, but

far better than the stock seat, and yes...even my pillow.

Now that's more like it, I'm sure you will like the rdl.

Yes sir...I usually do around 1000 miles a month or more. I wasnt going to let that pillow slow me down. Just a bit rough in the twisties and saddle movement is limited. Otherwise, not a bad ride. Far better than 95% of stock seats i have ever ridden on.

I can empathize... rode from Seattle to San Jose and back a month ago, and my a$$ was killing me on the way down. I had to stop every hour to 90 minutes, and would spend each night soaking in a tub. My butt was bruised, literally, from the seat. I spent a week in San Jose on business, riding the bike a few miles each day between the office and the motel, and then rode back via Anderson and Rick Mayer Saddlery.

Let me tell you a custom saddle is like night and day. I was still sore (from the factory saddle) but I could ride an entire tank's worth (240 miles, at 70 mph average) without having to stop. IMO the factory seat is a safety hazard. You are so focused on how much your butt hurts that your attention to what is going on suffers.

Some may say sad, some may say desperate, I say genius! I agree though, I would have gone with a black pillow case!
