shifting: I might suggest the clutch soak and synthetic oil - I use Shell Rotella synthetic 5w40 in the blue gallon jug -

$19 at Wally World

other more expensive and good is Mobil1 Motorcycle Racing 10w40

My used bike has clunky shifting with no change in the 17,000 miles I've put on it, I can shift it fast or slow well but in between speeds yeild a clunk. So, I shift fast or slow. The first shift from a cold start from neutral to 1'st or 2nd is loud and has been so on every bike I've ever had, my Bandit 1200 was the worst. If you want to avoid that clunk you can start the bike in first or 2nd gear with the clutch in and just take off. The FJR was a hard bike to get used to for me, it took me a few thousand miles before I could drive it smoothly, but I do clunk - shift fairly often, earplugs help here, lol.

The stock bags on my bike rattled too, so I put some extra rubber on the lower rail holders and put a thin piece under that upper holes to increase the tension. That worked fine.

Good luck with the rest.

Man, I love those Patriot Riders, you guys rock! I can't remember if there are bushings where the bags sit on the bottom, I think so, it's been awhile since I've seen it. I was thinking about doing the extra piece of rubber thing like Rolavine. We did purchase the bike from the dealer here in town. I just sent in a Yamaha survey that I recieved from the last trip to the shop. I can tell you the reviews were not rave!

Adios

Darknight, form what the lawyer said, I would find another lawyer to talk to. I haven't read the California lemon law but the federal lemon law is fairly cut and dry. If you kept the records of when you took it in and you meet the requirements there shouldn't be a problem.

We bought our '09 FJR in May after doing hours of research on what an awesome machine this is and have had nothing but problems since day one. It has been in the shop on and off for 32 days and counting now. Idle issues, stalling, tps changed, now fuel pump is bad, loud roar from front wheel(tech says it't normal), windshield squeaks, bags rattle(tech says it's normal), loud clunking shifting, this is the first Yamaha I have owned and am quite disappointed. I wanna love it, but I'm strugglin'. My wife and I had plans to ride to Colorado this summer. Guess what, we didn't. We have had to cancel trips because the bike is down at the dealership! Any input would be great. Like I said I wanna love it, I really do.

It was said before but I'll add again to get that fuel pump replaced and go ride, go see if it gets worse and compare it to other FJR's. 2100 miles is very low.

Idle issues are probably a dealer set up issue so, find a new dealer once you put some miles on. Mine had the idle set very low. Turn that knob a bit on the engine's right side for a higher idle, say 1200 rpm or so. What oil is in it? Some dealers put odd crap in, most any 10w40 will work. I would use Yamalube 10w40 till you get it broken in and running right so there is no question on lube. Oil level? Too much oil? Too little oil?

Everything else sounds normal, your wind shield will squeak. You can lube it. The tranny is a bit notchy compared to my last Honda ST. Yet it does not clunk any more than my Honda. Front tire issues are common with low psi, get a quality tire on there and keep it at 40 to 42 psi not 39 psi or the 36 psi my dealer used. How often do you check air? It probably is not being checked at a dealer. My front tire will hold over 40 psi for two weeks. After three weeks it reads 38 psi every time down from 42.

Your bags shouldn't rattle but, they do move a bit on rough roads. I just did a 7,000 mile trip with no issues, I wouldn't hesitate to take off on any new FJR fresh off the show room floor and ride out your way. Come over to Alabama, you can take mine for a spin. ;)

I'm still getting used to the tranny on mine as well. I'm no where near as smooth with it as I am with the Wee. The throttle is very touchy as well. The bike shifts great if you are nailing it (like budda') but it's tough for me to be smooth when taking it easy. I'm having fun practicing though!!!!

My bags are a little loose, nothing to crazy as compared to the Givis on the Wee that are rock solid.

This bike is taking me some time to get used to it but man I LOVE those brakes and that motor!!!!!

One problem might be that it may need to have clutch plates soaked.

I thought my 07 had a problem early on. It would lurch when I put it in gear, made a loud clunk when shifted from neutral, and I had to use perfect technique to make a good shift in the lower gears. On at least one occasion I had to use the brake to get the clutch to disengage when I tried to stop. I thought it was my technique. the shop said it was normal or my problem. Finally at 10,000 miles I had to have the clutch looked at on my nickle. The shop found half of the plates burnt with a black deposit. I now think it was sticking clutch plates that needed to be soaked. I ended up getting new clutch plates. I now have 29,000 miles and it still shifts great.

Funny you mention tire pressure, the tech decided to lower the pressure when he was putting the 800 miles on it. I think I might take it to Big O and have them put nitrogen it them, I love it in our car tires.

I really appreciate all the input from you all, hopefully I will have it back in a few days and let everyone know I'm happy as a lark !!

I never run les than 38 lbs. in my front tire. 40-42 when loaded for a trip.

Of course, I'm a rather "stout" person (okay, large, over weight, portly, fat) @ 250 lbs +........

I live just down the road from ya in Modesto. If you have it in the Manteca shop, I really feel for ya. I have dealt with them in the past and have a very low opinion of them (that's long story involving my last bike (VMax) that died and they didn't want to work on it). The yamma shop in Stockton or Modesto (both owned buy the same guy) are better.

Send me a PM we can set up a time to hook up. I can bring my "Black Beauty" ('08 model), and let you check her out.

They've put 800 out of 2100 miles on your bike!? That's insane. I'd say one of the techs has a girlfriend that lives a couple hundred miles away and he's having 'trouble' diagnosing your bike to his benefit...on the weekends! If it were mine, I'd get it the hell out of that shop if I had to push it! Have one of the board members check it out for ya, I'll bet they'll get it sorted out in no time.

Get a different lawyer and lemon law this one. I dont know of anyone else that has had problems like this with a brand new feej.

It's sad to read of your problems... should never happen on a new Feej.

As a native of the Central Cal area, I recall that one thing Manteca was famous for was "Manteca Fed Beef" (and had the smells to prove it!). Sounds to me like the Yama dealer there has shifted his focus from production of said beef to the by-product: BS!

Get your scoot the hell out of there! The offers you've received from the fine folks surrounding you are solid gold, as is the recommenrdation to take your bike to the Yamma dealer in Roseville. Zack there is well known in the FJR community as a stand-up guy who really knows his stuff... rides one himself, as I recall. Nothing but good reports out of that dealership from satisified customers.

Two names pop up here with regularity: Zack in Roseville for service, and Gary McCoy at Mondak Motorsports in MT for online parts. You won't go wrong with either!

Good luck getting this sorted out so you can begin to enjoy the goodness hidden in your Feej! :yahoo:
