Issues with 13s and 14s

Hi all

Just thought i'd speak my mind!

I wasn't around when the 05 model came out(current bike) and wouldn't know if this forum was either but there seems to be plenty of issues going by the forum re the 13 and 14 models. Don't get me wrong, i'd still love a new bike but man!!

Huh? Like what?

I was around here in '05 and compared to ticker-fest Gen 1 (which was generally overblown), altitude/ignition/electrical of some early Gen 2......the '13 and '14 seem surprisingly quiet. And I own two '05s and a '14. The biggest issue I've seen is a discretionary faux pas of cruise control limit and side bag decals falling off. Very minor stuff IMO.

That took all of 5 minutes to find.Just thought i'd point that out.

Love my 2013 but the paint shouldn't rub off where my boots touch the bike. I will fix it this winter but.........

Easy there Steve. I respect your attitude towards the new guy asking age old questions but tread lightly as you haven't been here long enough to get booted this early.

My advice is to like what old fuks here say and jump in when they toss grenades. No sense getting killed yer first tour.

I took the years out because its either been the same or MORE for other years that 13 on all the subjects in the history of this forum. The ONLY one that seems endemic to Gen 3 (and later Gen 2?) are mudflaps. '13 and '14 have been more trouble-free than any years I can remember with perhaps exception of the non-Spider Gen 2s that have been comparable.

My only gripe is the seat, the 2014 is dam near perfect !!!!!!!

I had 9 separate issues with my new, now departed, Triumph Trophy the 3 months I owned it. (still had my trusty, ever faithful 07 FJR)

I still have a good belly laugh reading some other bike forums.

Trust me, you will never find a better bike !!!

Since I happen to have recently put together a few items about the Gen I and Gen II that could use some improvement I'll tack it on here. This is what the Gen 3 it going up against, every item has had lots of threads and posts in this Forum over the years.

ECU recall [bramfrank detail minutia clarification: free factory replacement for all involved '06 & '07 FJRs]

AE shift bracket failures

AE shift bracket recall

the center stand is too hard to use

the center stand is defective and breaks

the side stand is too hard to use correctly

side stand switch exposed to dirt and sticks

throttle pulley not concentric

throttle control

ABS pump fails

drive shaft splines not lubed

relay arms insufficient lube

brake pedal sticks

shift pedal sticks

headlights weak, poor beam pattern

lack of conspicuousness lighting

brake lights don't strobe

front fender does not extend down far enough

no radiator guard

no OEM heated grips except on the AE

lack of throttle lock/cruise control except on the Gen III

insufficient storage capacity, often needs a trunk

no passenger back rest

no highway pegs

I was in the other day getting the oil changed and a new tire installed on my bike and a guy came in for an oil change on his new 2013. (bought it in April as a last years model) He has noticed that the odometer rolls up to 7500kms and then resets back to 6501 kms. He said it has done it a couple of time so far. Any body else heard of this ..... Or this a one off kind of thing. He didn't seem worried. He even thought warranty issues it might be a good thing.

Maybe, perhaps it wasn't absolutely, technically a recall but Yamaha sent out letter M2007-016 to owners of '06 and '07 Yamaha FJR1300's, in this letter Yamaha stated that they are replacing the ECU's because of Altitude Surge.

...Please call your Yamaha dealer to make a service appointment to have this modification performed...
...Service of all affected units is authorized regardless of warranty status...
