Yesterday afternoon after I put away the tools and sat on her one last time, the realization hit me. This bike is now a rally bike. I've been taking a number of steps since I bought her in early September. I tend to have 30 minutes or an hour here and there. This weekend's work was enough to put her over the edge. Yahoo! :yahoo: Sorry, I have no pix. I'm not good at taking photos in the middle of a project. I just want to do the work.
Baby Steps:
All these "should" be done by the White Stag. And then we just ride, ride, ride. :yahoo:
Baby Steps:
- Removal of all the stickers. Even though they gave the bike personality, they are against IBR rules.
- First mod was the installation of fuses on the existing barrier strip. PO left it all unfused.
- Installed a Curt Gran Fuzeblock under the seat. Stuffed a 1/2" wire loom full of wires and ran it up the right side of the tank. No switched power yet. Moved Zumo power feed from dashboard Powerlet to Fuzeblock.
- Sent my tankbag to Linda T for some minor mods.
- Installed Wild Bill highway pegs (sourced from the forum flea market.)
- Purchased a longer Touratech arm for the existing stem mount. Also bought a rotating shelf so I can get it out of the sun.
- Disconnected the Power Commander. Mileage sucked. Left it in place, though.
- Installed FZ1 mirrors. Wow, what a huge improvement! Major functionality farkle.
- Installed NLine dash shelf. This took a number of false starts but eventually I worked out all the bits and pieces. Nothing mounted on the shelf yet.
- Mounted BLM fuel cell over the passenger seat. Not connected yet. Had to modify one of the mount brackets, hole didn't line up.
- Mounted BLM switch box on the clutch reservoir. Nothing in the box yet.
- Installed bulkhead fitting for fuel cell. Many thanks to Tom M. for doing the heavy lifting. Temporary routing of fuel line so I can test the damn thing.
- Replaced the Touratech stem mount with RAM. This system is a keeper.
- Drilled holes in the clutch switch box to accommodate two Heat Troller knobs.
- Installed Heat Troller knobs, routed wires properly, wired head of unit. Heat Troller install complete.
- Re-did fuel line from cell to tank. Located quick disconnect up near the tank. Connected vent and ground wire. Fuel cell install complete.
- Laid out and installed electronics on dash shelf. From right to left: XM puck, Mix-It, V1 remote audio adapter, V1, Garmin 2610.
- Wires neatly dressed with strain relief. 2610 wires left in place, though shelf not drilled for mount yet.
- Using a Posi-Lock, connected the Fuzeblock to the blue/red wire going to the taillight. Switched power for the V1 and MixIt!
- Russell seat (ride-in this Friday)
- 2610 mounted to dash shelf
- Relocation of the PHID ballasts which the PO improperly located
- NLine rain box for V1
- Garauld trunk rack
- Pelican rear case
- Star-Traxx wired.
- McCullough HID low beams installed
