It makes want to cry,,,,,,,,,,but I have to let her go. Money has gotten so tight these days I can no longer justify the extra cost of keeping her.

She has been the one thing that has made this old man feel alive.;(

NOooooo!

I considered - VERY briefly - letting mine go last spring. For a different reason

It lasted for about 3 minutes. I knew I couldn't / wouldn't do it ....

Seriously, I'm sorry for your circumstances. But don't count yourself out until the fat lady sings.

Stick around and check out the Classifieds occasionally.

Bolded part of your post is all the justification needed. Other things can be cut back that don't strike so deeply into the heart. Things like food(oatmeals good for you),heat(dial down, bundle up), the 2nd car (share a ride),vacation ( every ride is one), etc.

If you're already there, then I'm sorry and hope things improve for you soon.

I feel your pain. The last couple of years it seems that money has simply vaporized around here. Taking lunch to work instead of eating out, keeping leftovers longer, no extras like spare shoes and shirts, Red Box instead of movie theaters, blah blah blah.

Being in Florida, though, I actually kept the bike and got rid of the car. It's cheaper to run and icy roads are quite rare.

Hope your circumstances come around for you.

Same here... plus it was a lot easier to pay off the FJR than the car. And a lot cheaper to keep the FJR running, since I can work on a bike, but not a car.

And $12/wk gas bills aren't something to sneeze at.

It's been a tough couple of years for just about everyone, no doubt about it. After more than 30 years of driving a company vehicle I was informed in May that those days were over. The dealership I work for was more than ready to make me into a "customer" but considering that my personal economy has pretty much followed the national one, I said "no thanks" as the last thing I want/need right now is another payment. So, I now commute on my old XL600R and find I am actually enjoying it, even when it's 40 degrees out and raining. When we had snow a few weeks ago I broke out the XL250R and rode that. (I only crashed once, I just wish it hadn't been on the lot in front of most of the sales department  ) It all takes me back to when I first got my license and was riding my Yamaha 175 Enduro to school in the rain, sun, or snow and I was the happiest guy on the planet for doing it. Certainly my solution wouldn't work for everyone, but I've been quite pleased at how well Jenny and I have adapted to being a one car family. And, what I've been reminded of is in the case of having to give up either the bike or the cage, it's no contest for me, it's see ya later cage.

Riding a motorcycle is the best anti-depressant I can think of and if I didn't have at least one I'd probably be on a double dose of the pill kind. Someday things will change again, the economy and my industry will recover, but I'm not sure I will ever go back to using a cage for my commute again, as what at first seemed to be a negative has actually turned out to be a positive.

Hoping you are able to keep that one thing that makes you feel alive. Life is too short to not have something like that in your life. As others have posted, there may be a solution that you're not seeing right now and maybe you can work your way around it. If you absolutely do have to sell it, maybe look at getting an interim bike - smaller, less expensive, that will still let you get your 2-wheeled (s)miles. There will always be another FJR when the time is right.

No matter what, don't be a stranger... there are a few folks who don't own an FJR that are still allowed to play in the sandbox. ;)

It may not be an FJR,but I shall return some day!

Things were going along pretty well when I bought her, but shortly after, my wife lost her job. She then became ill and now can't work.

And I am working for a man I dislike, at a job that I dislike, but I am grateful to have. For far less money then I was making before.

But,hey! It's all good,my jeep is payed off and I still have my muzzle loader, and there are lots of deer in the forest. At least I will eat.

Sounds like my job.

Hey, don't get wrong, I love my job!

It's just the hours, the people, and the location that I have issues with.

Sorry to hear of your troubles. As someone who suffered a serious *** whoopin in the early 80's recession, I wake up every morning and thank God this one has had little effect on me and my family. Good luck to you and yours.

In consideration, surely compassionate to your plight.

10 weeks post accident/and left ankle break mending and bike totaled. I have been driving my paid for suv/rx.

Commented to wife today that I am tired of pulling up to the pump every week dropping over 40bucks+ on gas.

Heck, on the FJR as daily commute It was $20/every two weeks. As I continue to mend and think, I sure hate not

being able to ride and go and buy my next one. Now with gas getting back to $3/gal and staying, I am all-too ready

to get back to commuting on a motorcycle. Don't really want a brand new one, but may have to finance the next one, even so

the savings will pay for itself.....

.

Good blessings to ya,

My wife and I were struggling for most of our life and it's wasn't until things got bad everywhere that our lives finally got good. We both love our jobs and have money to do what we want but we are putting most of it in savings just in case.

Sorry to hear about your situation. Sounds like you have a pretty good attitude, considering everything.

I would get rid of my 10mpg pickup before the 40mpg FJR because I save a ton of money by commuting on the bike. Plus it's a LOT more fun! But I have another car in the family and you don't have that luxury. :(

And as Ted Nugent would say, Whack em and stack em with that muzzleloader! :yahoo: We need fewer of those forest rats running around and jumping infront of riders!

...Now with gas getting back to $3/gal...
Let's see. Here in the UK we pay something like £1.21 per litre. There are 3.78541 litres to the US gallon. Current exchange rate $1.5718 to the £. That makes us paying $7.19 to the gallon.

And we have a tax escalator on fuel, so it's going up al the time.

Oh for a $3 gallon.
