I haven't seen a SINGLE person mention proper maintence of the cooling system....

When was the last time you flushed/changed the coolant? Have you even checked the levels to make sure you're not low on fluid?

I've had her for a year but I don't remember her being this damn hot. Maybe it's the Alabama heat/humidity...I have got to find a way to cool her down. The tank is hot enough to really bother me if I touch it. Sitting on the pillion seat is MUCH cooler. I know all about the heat fixes and I tried a few, even insulated the tank already but DAMN it's hot. So hot that I actually choose to drive the car to work. And I would really rather drive the bike.

98º here

Rant over,

James
Let ya drive my GSXR around for a while. It is one thing I notice on this one. My guage reads 220 before the fan kicks in. Exhaust, nice and exposed right by my leg. The heat is just as bad or worse but the thing about the FJR is it is right at the tank, on the GSXR the heat is just all around you but the tank isn't hot.

DOn't miss that :D
Never been on any FJR other than my 06 but any bike is very hot to ride when it 98 outside. Sounds like a good time for a mint julip by the pool or a swim in the steam. At that temp you are probably better off to drive the car and turn on the A/C. My 06 does not seem overly hot and it has been hot up here in CT. Like sparkies GSXR my TLR will roast your left *** cheek to a medium well when she is not on the move and like the GSXR my fans to not trip until 220F. By then I am trying to lift my left side off the seat to get some relief. So the FJR seems much cooler tham my TLR but the TLR is a blast to ride on the short rides so she is a keeper too.

Well I just opened the radiator cap for the first time on my 04' and did a flush......... But I haven't ever noticed a heat problem in 100 degree + days, I haven't pulled the throttle springs off and my arm hasn't fallen off yet and my side stand has never jumped up or fallen off or whatever. Maybe my FJR is defective?

Heck slap, I haven't even checked my Diesel for coolan't level. :D

Over flow has fluid, isn't that good enough

[slight steer away from the subject]

People always have the option of trailering their sickles to WFO in Reno. Not a bad idea if you're riding up from SoCal; 395 from Victorville to Bishop es muy caliente that time of year.

How's this: trailer it to Carson City or so, offload it, then ride it the rest of the way. Saw many a biker doing this in So. Dakota so they could then ride it into Sturgis as if this were some sort of religious experience.

No Rogue, the only thing defective on your bike is the paint color. ;)

It's already pushing 100 in Reno and it's still a month+ from now. The a.m. getouts on the Passes rides and such should be fine but dropping out of the mountains down to 395 and back in is gonna be a roaster.

Even more so when 300 hot-running bikes all pull into the concrete covered parking in the afternoon  .

Sounds like swimming pool time, or blackjack in the air-conditioned casino time to me.

I recently put a Cal Sci windshield on my '05 FJR. The two holes at the bottom of the windshield allow a good bit of air through to flow over the tank, and that in turn eliminates a significant amount of heat. For the most part I didn't give a damn about the heat on my FJR one way or the other. In fact, I love that heat in cool weather. It was just dumb luck for me that the Cal Sci cools the tank area so well in hot weather. I'll plug the holes in cold weather. Heat is good.

You get a Joe Rocket Sahara vest and turn yourself into a mobile swamp cooler. A very effective way to beat the heat. :)

06 06 06! It was lo 90s and humidity to match a few weekends ago: warm, but no heat from the FJR. OTOH on my '03...furgeddaboutit! Instant turkey baster....yukk. DFO :p

Yep, a weekend ago, here in Hotlanta 92 degrees, was the first time the heat from my '04 really bothered me. I had to move my legs away from the tank & it was 3/4 full. And no I havn't flushed it either but I'm gonna do that one of these years. Yes the St's I've ridden were hotter but U wanna really feel HOT, ride my '02 S3T Buell around the Hotlanta beltway in stop & go traffic. Then U can say It's F%^*ing HOT! Later,,, De

At 98 degrees I wouldn't drive my FJR, or for that matter any motorcycle, my car has nice cool A/C.

I have been in Ohio when it was in the 80 and 90"s so was the humidity. I will never do that again. If I was riding a bike any bike I would have ridden it man and machine right into the first pool or lake I saw! A cold front moved into Havasu its ownly 114 today dew point 24 percent humidity 7 percent. Friday it is going to be 121 really. But its a dry heat. NOW THATS F%$#&%$$%%$$%^%$#%#%%^cken HOTTTTTTTT!!!

some people would not be happy if they won the powerball.
Most of us on this forum and in the US in general won the lottery when we were born here.

Take one look at the way many people live in some third world countries and I realize, while I may have bills up to my eyeballs, I am extremely lucky to just be a US citizen and it is something I was just born with.

I am a lucky SOB!!!
