Rain sucks but is just something more to live with. It does increase one's alertness.

So with the hour that you guys are turning lights out in SanFran tonight, are you going out "just for the sport" of it?

I understand there'll be a lot of illicit, non-motorcycle **** going on. It would almost be worth making the trip.

Thank you for precipitating (!) all the good info on in-climate commuting. But, as far as 'Least Favorite Time of Year' let me provide a bit of perspective:

No, we lose, you win. You can ride through your 'Least Favorite Time of Year'. All we can do is hunker down and trash all the Forum threads from Nov. to Jun.

Thanks for the safety tips and the reality check on how to deal with sub-optimal riding. I'm jealous of your year-round riding B)

Thank you. It is pretty great. And you add on top of it where I live, which is the Bay Area, which means Hwy 1 and the coastline to the west, the Wine Country to the northwest, and the Gold Country to the east, not to mention Yosemite.

But it do rain occasionally and I do hate the rain [go to top of thread to read rest of thought....]

Another great how too thread. I get great pointers from your posts. Tomorrow I am hitting Napa with a bunch of oldsters. I will try to avoid the wet leaves and road goo.
Thank you, Mid. Napa, eh? Some great rides up there, like the Silverado Trail (can be touristy). But some great roads to the northeast by Lake Berryessa. Have fun and be safe!

JB The post rain riding tips were put to full use. Sweet day of riding. Rode around Lake "Berry-Essa" to Napa and back. Then took Mrs MId on a high (well high for me) speed run aound the auburn countryside and down to Foresthill. first ride had lots of tight turns and the trip to to Foresthill had lots of nice high speed sweepers. Some days when you expect a good ride it rains and other days like today when expectations are low - nirvana.

Sounds great. Man, I wish my wife would get on the back more often. Last time on the back I made the mistake of accelerating out of a tunnel a little too fast (maybe 70 to 90 in about 5 seconds) to avoid a large truck coming up fast behind me, and she hasn't been on since. That was the first time I'd ever felt The Tiny Fists of Fury on my back.

But I think part of the solution is to get a communications system, and to get clear from her what her comfort zone is in terms of my riding style.

Yesterday in the East Bay hills it was a beautiful day for riding. Look for post going up later this morning.
