I removed the fill plug and guess what? Fluid came out. I guess in my haste when doing the fluid change, I didn't let the fluid "settle" or stop draining completely. I'm not sure how much fluid came out, as I didn't have any way to measure it, but I snapped a pic of the drain pan. Keep in mind some of the fluid might be residual oil from an oil change, but most of the fluid shown most likely came out of the rear diff.

Thanks again for all of your help guys. As I said, this is my first shaft driven bike, so it's all a bit new to me.

Wow, that's WAY too much fluid. You probably blew a seal from all that over pressure!
J/k, ride more, stress less. This ain't a BMW yer riding, so ride with confidence. Just don't overfill and make a leaky mess next time.

Like I said, some of that fluid is from an oil change, since I tilted the pan to let it drain to get a pic. However, as soon as I removed the plug, it trickled out.

Gift the excess oil to a Volkswagen TDI owner. It'll burn just fine in that diesel engine and won't increase their emissions at all.

So I'm assuming that since I've removed the plug and let it "drain" until it stopped, I should be good to go? No damage, you think? I've got a big rude planned in a few days, I'd hate to have anything go wrong.

Thx again guys.

Why would you think you damaged it? Then again, why would you change the FD fluid, not knowing what you're doing? No damage was done. It's happened before, even to people that know what they're doing; however, buy yourself a Service Manual and read it before you do anything you're not sure of.

You caused no problem other than a need to clean the rear wheel, but the fill level is at the bottom of the threads.

Is there any way to donate some $ for the upkeep and maintenance of this forum? You guys have been very helpful & I'd like to help support the forum if possible.

Or should I send a PM to one of the moderators?

The forum is run on magical pixie dust and does not need to be replaced for many fortnights. We don't need, nor want, money at this point. Thanks though.

If you want to do something for the the forum? We administrators REALLY like it when new members spend time ACTUALLY doing those things we strongly suggested when you signed up and reading pinned areas in the New Member area and other areas. A variety of the questions you've been asking have been asked and answered many times before...if you'll just look a little for the previous discussions and details. The members of this forum have truly created the best place on the Internet for FJR technical discussion and we all really appreciate when everybody contributes.

Thanks.

Went for a "spirited" ride yesterday; no leaks to see when I got home. You guys were right, the final drive was slightly overfilled. Good thing I ordered the new seal!

I guess I'll return it. Or I could keep it and put in the toolbox, just in case.
