Wooo Hoooo what a blast to ride up the Radisson highway! My morning started out in Norland Ontario where I was to meet up with Mike.

DSCF2182.jpg

We left Norland at about 8:30 am and just wandered for the next 6 hrs.

DSCF2185.jpg

While I lead for a few hours meandering around the Haliburton Highlands soon, it was Mikes turn to lead. There are times I question his navigating skills.

DSCF2217.jpg

Just kidding ... Mike took me on a tour of his childhood haunts. The one above was on the way to a small Generating station. I'm not too sure if this next one is a statue of Paul Bunyon or not or is it Big Bill Muckerra (Stompin' Tom song)

DSCF2198.jpg

We even took a few moments to tease the fish! We were successful in NOT catching a single fish!

DSCF2224.jpg

But we did manage to sample some other pleasures.

DSCF2227.jpg

Early the Monday morning we were off to meet Scott and Chester in Amos, Quebec. But, not before feeding the local Fox population. This little guy was very cautious of us be also very hungry. Mike tossed the little fella a hot peperoni! I bet the little fella is still shittin' through the eye of a needle!!

We thought we'd test out my new heart plumbing by climbing one of those Look-out towers in the middle of nowhere (you know... miles from 911 service) It seems to be working pretty good so far!

DSCF2238.jpg

Ol' Mike is tough as nails!!

DSCF2242.jpg

After hooking up with Scott and Chester we are on the road to Matagami. This is a roadside tribute to the local mining indsustry.

DSCF2245.jpg

Chester thought maybe this would be pretty handy for mucking out the horse stalls.

DSCF2247.jpg

More later. It only gets better from here! See you back here on Sunday as I'm off to a reunion tomorrow!

Cool report! Great to see my CFR buddie Mike too! True story about Mike on the way to Nakusp.

"Hey" I say, "I bet I know where you're going."

"Yeah, no ****" Mike responds.

Me, "Well, the ferry is only 12 miles ahead."

Mike, "Ferry, what ferry? There's a ferry ahead? I'm just following this gps thingie!"

Lauged so hard after we got underway I blew a bit o' snot on the inner shield..

Nice pics, enjoyed the report! New heart plumbing, eh? Without any previous guessing I'm knowing you ain't the one succumbing to the urge at the top of the stairs! Had mine [3 & an A-valve] two'n'ahalf years ago! Have thought, out of curiosity, about starting a topic specific thread about that; ...have no doubts there's quite a few of us, given our average ages hereabouts.

In our excitement to get rolling after we met up with Scott and Chester Mike and I forgot to top up. With less than a mile to the next gas station Mike runs out!

DSCF2249.jpg

First thing Tues. morning we check in at the start of the Radisson Hwy. For the next 622kms some of us will ride wide open and some will take in the scenery.

DSCF2254.jpg

Chester and I stop for a rest. Scott and Mike are way out front somewhere.

DSCF2262.jpg

Catching up with Scott and Mike at the Rupert River Bridge we all take in the sights. The pics of the river do not do justice to the raging water. Next year at this time the river may just be a trickle as they are diverting a major portion of the water flow to feed another Hydro Electric Dam.

At Kilometer 381 we stop for fuel. We wait for the Gas Boy! Mike and Scott have gone through most of their extra fuel at this point. In fact Mike has also gone through MY extra fuel too.

DSCF2284.jpg

DSCF2283.jpg

After hecking in to the hotel we take a little ride out to Le Grande 1 Hydro Generator. This is a tribute to those that helped build the dam.

DSCF2287.jpg

We were able to cross the dam and wander around.

DSCF2291.jpg

DSCF2293.jpg

If there is no-one around to tell you not to do something is it wrong to to it anyway?

DSCF2297.jpg

Chester is standing under the sign just to the left of the last up-right. Just to give you a perspective as to the size of this installation.

DSCF2298.jpg

We finally make it out to James Bay and dip our bikes into the bay and by assotiation the Arctic Ocean!

Tide? oh crap!

DSCF2310.jpg

Only in Canada will you see this...

DSCF2314.jpg

DSCF2316.jpg

Not exactly FJR quality roads. But if you want to see the Bay you do what ya gotta do.

DSCF2318.jpg

A sign tree at the hotel.

DSCF2321.jpg

Mike had a slow leaker so he replaced 3 of the 5 plugs in his rear tire!

DSCF2323.jpg

Getting up close with the wildlife. At the museum. This is the staging area for the start of out trip into the Robert Bourrassa Le Grande River Generating Station.

DSCF2326.jpg

What is it with look-out towers!

This is the spill-way for the dam. There is 10 steps to this spillway and each step is big enough to hold 2 football fields!! The walls are about 30 yards tall.

DSCF2337.jpg

From the other side.

DSCF2343.jpg

Self portrait. We went into the dam and generating station itself but were not alowed any pictures for security reasons.

DSCF2345.jpg

All trips come to an end. I had a great time with some great riding companions. We had no miss-haps even though we tested the Fjr's in the 200kmph range. This bike never lets me down and always amazes me.

DSCF2359.jpg

DSCF2357.jpg

Back at KM 381 we stop for gas on the return trip and apparently Mike didn't get the leaker.

DSCF2364.jpg

We had heard about a group of guys on the STN net heading our way from Michigan and just as we pulled over to have our lunch who should pull up but some fellow travellers.

This is what 1200+ kms of Quebec bugs look like!

DSCF2374.jpg

Last pic of trip. We were going to camp for our last night of the trip but Mother Nature had other plans. So, we made a drive for Mikes Cottage in Mattawa instead. We lit a fire to take away the dampness and promptly fell into dream land. Possibly dreaming of our next adventure!

DSCF2378.jpg

Hell. Ya!

Oh, stop trying to pass off the bugs as being Quebec bugs. Your bike is always covered in them.

Can you imagine the noise when water is spilling down that spillway? Wow, would love to see that

Great stuff Rob. Wow!Great to see you back out adventuring on your FJR.

What else have you planned for this season?

Hey Michael I'll going to EOM in Sept. I was supposed to be going back to Eastern Quebec this weekend but it doesn't look like it's going to happen.

Ciao

Barb when we were in the generating station the roar was sooo loud! We had to almost yell to each other. We were alowed to touch the side of the turbines. The whole place just hummed!

...Good on you Chester for doing this trip...between CFR and this...it look like your ribs are healed.

Yeah, Rob....yer looking ship-shape. Glad the doctor's fixed you up...except if he could only get you to be a little less shy and speak up a little more...

Great stuff guys! :yahoo:
