Bit of a crappy day, unfortunately. But not the end of the world, sprinkled here and there. Tad gray.

This is at the end of an island at the western-most point in Honshu.

Here's the bridge to the island.

Lunch was this.... soba with karubi (kalbi) beef on top. Very very good!

Excellent trip report. Makes me want to go back east again (2 years in Korea).

I like the blue theme you had going here.

But all the architecture (inside and out) is my favorite.

The rest of the guys headed back due to the crap weather. I continued the planned loop and had time then to take some more pics, especially of the roads.

Thought these trees in the water looked cool.

Found this shrine....

(it is coming up to cherry blossom season, which is pretty cool. It lasts about a week, but if you move around you can find it over the course of 3 weeks or so. Japan is big into beautiful things, and cherry blossom season is.... beautiful).

One of those nice, wet, debris-laden roads. yay.

But quite nice through the hills.

Some turkish dude named dino ran this little van, made coffees, desserts, etc. Not much business on this rainy day. Cool dog tho.

That's it for Day 3. Here's the Nihonshu (sake) menu.... (rice wine).

Run into random gravel bits like this. Obviously this kind of construction isn't on the map!

On the end of that island, crazy goat track around it.

But even on such a remote road, they put a lot of money into infrastructure....

:clapping: Wow !

Colin, always love your pics and reports. Wonderful scenery and good food :) Asparabacon - mmm-mmmm-- yes.

Snail thingy  no-no!

I noticed an absence of one thing though ----- litter!! The trash police must be big guys huh?

It all looks so clean and orderly -- nice :)

Awaiting next installment.

Saw this on the beach! Took the pic still sitting on my bike. Kind of a mini-miyajima....

3390042634_8a5588e667_b.jpg

Dinner was katsu-don, or fried fillet of pork over rice with egg & onion. Really awesome. Really loaded with cals. hehe.

Day 5.

Tourist day. Sent the overseas tourists to check out Miyajima and the shrine there and also Hiroshima (which is quite an interesting place to visit if you get a chance). The plan was to meet in Hiroshima for dinner.

Meanwhile, Eric and I took a ride around Hiroshima (on the highway to get around it during rush hour). Ran around all those islands, and then went back.

Once again, generally nice roads. Even the goat tracks I'm starting to get used to and like. Don't always have to go fast, quite pleasant to take the turns slow and make sure nobody is going to cream you going the other way.

These things seem to be there to harvest some kind of shellfish, mussel, clam, something.... ?
