Here is my latest attempt at a Rideumentary. It is taken from a trip I did last weekend around Lake Michigan. It is just a tad over 12 minutes, but I think you will find it interesting.

Look forward to hearing any comments, good and bad.

What !!! No footage of the mighty FJR crossing the Mackanac bridge grating??? Grew up in Wisconsin and miss the Big Lake (not the smell) and cooler temps (not the snow). That bridge used to creep me out everytime, bike or car.

Hope you had a good trip.

Good show, nice low camera perspective in motion. More Rush.

Odot to the white courtesy phone please.

Crap. Where'd he go this time?

Someone tell 'dot that his band is playing in this video.

I am not a big fan of the grates on that bridge, I have no problem in a car, but last year I took my previous bike a Victory Vegas across the grates and she was a wobblin pretty bad. But someone told me, "Weebles wobble, but they don't fall down."

Thanks for the comments, Rush was sort of a fluke for this vid, I had no intention of using any music other than what I could find on Garageband, but I saw "The Pass" on my Itunes and it seemed to fit perfectly. Next ride video I will try for a full song from Rush.

Thanks again,

Chris

Great job, Awesome video. Best i've seen yet.

I would like to know how to do this someday. What camera and how did you get the different positions?

Wow! Very good job.

Great quality. Really enjoyed that Cyclebabble, and I'm looking forward to your next one.

Yes, it would be cool to hear about the technical stuff. How much time is involved in

the production of a piece like this?

How did you decide on your hosting site?

Thank you!

The camera gear I use is a Vio Pov.1 See Link > https://www.vio-pov.com/

I also use a Panasonic PV-GS500 Mini DV, with a wide angle lense for any shots not on the bike.

Editing software is Apples Final Cut Express 4, awesome program that has almost all the capabilities of Final Cut Pro.

Music Editing is done in Apples Garage Band, which is okay, but with the Digital Rights Management it can be a pain to use a certain song, but it can be done.

Production time - As far as the trip, I left Thursday night after work, and returned Saturday Night. It was pretty much on the bike the whole time during the daylight hours. I think I have about three hours of video from the trip which I used only the footage you see. So lots of editing. Though I do a bit of editing when I am filming, only shooting video that I think will be interesting.

Editing, the part I really enjoy other than the ride itself. I started the night I came home, and then all day Sunday. Plus three late nights after work Mon thru Wednesday. I am single so it helps that no one is nagging at me to clean the house or take out the trash(which needs to done).

After everything is done the computer has to render it, and depending on the size it can take a long time. So I usually finish up late, let it render overnight, then upload the video while I am at work.

Camera mounts are Ram Mounts. They are pretty versatile, and allow for different angles. The low shots of the road are from a unique mount I have on my centerstand. I will take a pic or some video so you can see how it works.

The only thing I don't really like is when I want to change angles I have to stop the bike to adjust the camera. But it would be too expensive to have two or more of the Pov.1s. So you can see when I switch angles it is not a match to the previous shot. But the overall effect is great, and it conveys the idea of the ride.

Thanks for the comments, feel free to ask anything you like!

Well done! Great finished video and music quality.

But where were the curves? You need to come out here and shoot some curves footage! :)

I look forward to seeing your report from the Aerostitch rally.

Michigan stinks for curves, I get so excited when I see the yellow sign with the squiggly arrows, then it turns out to be nothing. There are only a couple good roads here. So far I have invitations from S.E. Ohio, and California to ride there roads. Sooner or later I will! Also been following Anna's blog at https://excessivelocity.blogspot.com/ Seems there are some great roads in the southern states. So much to see and do in this country, there is not enough time to do it all!

Thanks for the comments!

The money shot would be looking down through the grating. Way cool anyway.

Go to the Ironworker museum and get some fudge in St. Ignats. (shut-up Odot)

That would work, but you need to feel the concrete turn to grating to give you that open-air pucker feeling.

Suddenly you are 2-300 feet from water with the wind whistling below you. Fun.
