Ok, I'm now in slovakia and I didn't get enough information on the registration process in time from my company to be able to bring the bike!!! :angry2: So it is being stored by my father-in-law in Moscow, ID.

Stef (Teerex51) has been a great help over here, and hopefully I will soon have a Feejer on each side of the pond!

It always amazes me how the MC community is so helpful. (I'm on my fourth Budvar in the Cz Republic so I may switch into Italian soon and not know it). Great beer over here. All of you drinking Budweiser in the States should hang your head in shame!!!

Anyway, I wanted to say hello to all the friends I made at EOM last year and with my bike on the West coast, I may even take a vacation for WFO next year!!

Right now I'm focusing on getting a bike in time for the "Raid to Istanbul" that Stef and his CRAZY compadres are planning.

I'll pop in occasionally and give sordid tales of Romanian Women, Hungarian Spas, (and Romanian Women in Hungarian Spas) and the amazing, ah, eh, "scenery" over here!

One of my aquantences here stateside is a Croation. He tells me everything over there is CHEAP except for gas. about $7 per gallon. A week at the beach with hotel and food is around $300 U.S. But you have to ride a bus or bike it to the beach .

Funny thing, I tried speaking what little Russian I remembered to him, and he educated me that the languages ar very diff with few similarities. Stupid me thought Slavic was Slavic.

Just don't get the detuned French model :lol:

Give a report on how the bikes are diff since you can do a first hand comparison.

You better enjoy your Budvar (that's probably cheaper than mineral water over there) while you can.

In Turkey we'll find plenty of locally-brewed Efes Pilsen but it's pretty "detuned" stuff...

In fact, I'm working on a farkle that'll allow us to bring our own brew.

No reason why during our "Raid to Istanbul" we should be deprived of our creature comforts, is there? B)

Caba glad to hear you are back in touch. Isn't Kosice a wonderful place? As I mentioned before we are still looking for just the right place to buy in east Slovakia. My wife now thinks we should buy a flat in Kosice rather than a cottage in "the nature". I envy you there with your Budvar. We have only recently been able to buy it here in Canada as there was a name infringement suit going on with that other crap called Budweiser.

Well I am sure Spring is in full gear over there and it is awesome. I always enjoyed the Easter season in Slovakia.

Sorry to disagree with you but their are different tastes in Beer.

I just got back from 3 weeks in Ireland and Scotland. In EVERY and I mean EVERY pub in Ireland and Scotland, and all supermarkets and convenience store, their were two (2) American beers being sold Bud and MGD. In every pub it was in bottles and on tap.

As much Bud and MGD were being sold as any local beer. (I'm talking lager beer).

When I asked why the local bar keep in the pubs why they sold so much Bud and MGD they said it was a much smoother beer then their local lagers.

As they say, "to each his own" I'm a lager guy. To me all their dark beer (and all our micro brews here in the states) tastes like the water draining from the bottom of a compost pile! ( and I would also say the micro brew thing here in the states is a social thing. ie: some feel more sophisticated if they drink a micro brew. because they may be taken for a biker or a NASCAR person if they drink that Bud or MGD stuff!)

If you really want to get a feel for their beer, take a brewery tour. It will cost you $50 and for that you will get to see a 30 minute video and a glass of their beer, as they run laughing all the way to the bank. What a let down, ie: rip off.

We did have a great time in Ireland and Scotland even thoght we were in a "cage". Didn't see too many bikes, but I did get a shot or two, which when I find them, I'll post.

The people were great, the food was good, the weather was fantastic AND we came home without that characteristic bitter taste in our mouths, because we all drank BUDWEISER AND MILLER MGD!

Budweiser Budvar is not a dark beer. In fact its definition is Pale Lager. (OK, maybe the picture above does not do it justice)

...and dig this :"Budweiser Budvar has a very rich taste of malt and Saaz hops. The bitter hop presence and distinct malt profile makes it easily distinguishable from an American Budweiser, which also uses rice in its brewing process."

I have never liked Guiness yet I know people who swear by it. And before anyone mentions it...yes I have had it in Dublin. Right at the brewery in fact. I am just not a real dark beer person. Although Guiness apparently cures everything from headaches to heart disease.

Caba why don't you look for a old Jawa I am sure you can pick one up cheap! We may be over there in the fall. We can drink Budvar together.

Here is a photo (taken two weeks ago) of the drinking room on top of the Guiness brewery in Dublin! AND a photo of my wife and I just after I had taken the $50.00 (rip off) tour and had one Guiness beer! Now do I look happy?

My wife is laughing because she knows I hate dark beer, but she also knew I'd drink my free beer because that's all you get for $50! The tour is just a bunch of photos and displays.

NOt to muddy the waters, but, I forgot. We also got a token of Plastic with a few drops of GUINESS embeded in it.

OK, It's obviously been too long since I jumped on to the forum and checked the threads.

First off, tstaff for the piccie of the date, check Stef's latest pictures for a better shot.

On the beer note, I've had the guiness and it doesn't hold a candle to the dark beers here IMHO. Stef and I had a GREAT Saris (pronounced sharish).

The Budvar is only different from what most of you know as Budweiser in that Budvar has lots of flavour. (I know, I know entering the neverending pointless recurring beer thread, but a neverending beer sounds pretty good!)

Gypsy, there was a car show in the square here this weekend and there were a dozen old jawas just like what you have pictured. I just don't know where to mount the top box and the radar detector. h34r:

I'll try to be better about keeping up, but working through the italian forum takes more effort. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll have a bike in time to join Stef on the "raid to Istanbul".... Would have been a blast!!

What a pity you came all this way to drink beer you can buy at home. Guiness is one of the nicest and most popular beers in the UK, so to say it tastes like sludge is a bit silly really. It would be like me saying Budwieser tastes like water. There are many other fine beers widely available, Boddington's, John Smiths smooth, are 2 that I like, there are countless others. These are what you call 'dark beers'. They are actually 'beer' your Bud ect would be deemed as lager here. A drink you would have if you had a thirst on a hot day. Far too much choice of 'proper beer' to drink it regularly. I have never seen it being drunk in a pub, only in cans taken home.

'Boddies' was brewed about 5 miles from me and their tag line was 'the cream of Manchester'. Sadly now the brewing is done somewhere much cheaper in Europe. It tastes just as good though. They did some pretty funny adverts in th e90's with a model from Manchester called Melanie Sykes, who now presents daytime TV.
