Meh. If he were looking at the people he was waving at, I would be impressed.

The kid is making racing fun again - for Vale at least. Not so much for Jorge or Dani, et al.

I just realized what he is actually doing. He is signaling for a right turn, so Crutchlow will have a better chance of not running off the track.

Hud - I concur. His arse is not on that seat - his left inner thigh is.
I'm also impressed with how, for the most part, those racers get up and walk away after they fall. I've studied this closely - it seems to me that they place a high priority in separating themselves from the bike. Fight the road, not the bike. They also tend to go limp and allow their bodies to slide as much as possible down the track, as opposed to fighting it and risking flip flopping at speed, where breaking bones and other things are more possible. With the sliding method, of course the leather suit is wonderful protection against road rash. To that extent, if you wear jacket and pants combo, always remember to zip them together, lest your jacket doesn't ride up your back during the slide down the belt sander.
The (almost) instantly inflating air bag in the suits is a big help also. Rock Stars, all of them!

MM is an amazing rider who makes other MotoGP riders look like mere mortals. Even though the other riders do things we only dream of doing with a motorcycle.

When I raced, we taught the new racers to count to 10 after you think you have stopped sliding, because your mind may think you have stopped, but your body may still be doing 30 mph across the ground. The other thing we taught, was to cross your arms and and close your fists to try and keep from getting them caught and causing you to tumble. Its the tumble that gets you hurt a lot worse.

The advance in gear since I raced is remarkable. One of the reason I wear leather and not synthetic fibers. I have crashed in leather a well over 100 mph and walked away after a long slide. It made a believer out of me. I do wear a Dianese 2 piece suit now, but I do always zip it together.

Re: sliding:

Kevin Schwantz crashed at VERY high speed (up in New England, I believe). The first corner worker to him yelled "Kevin! are you alright? What day is it?".

And Kevin replied: "For as long as I slid, it could be Tuesday".
