First let me say, My prayers are out for all of you that are in the major impact zone of this thing.

It felt like we were in a wind tunnel, the wind just kept on blowing-gusting!

First thing I noticed was looking out side at the limbs in our giant water maples, just bending- it looked like these 3 foot in diameter plus trees were just going to be torn out at the roots.....

next thing, Teresa and I could here, the crackling of 8-10 in diameter limbs as they were just snapped like tooth picks and tossed down all around our home.....

As we sat in the best place in the house away from any trees, we just kept hearing them snapping off and hitting things, our neighbors in the log cabin, got the worse this time, as a few bigger tree limbs feel on their house.

We had more big limbs, just tossed around our home and only one 40+ foot limb landed on the front of our house and we were lucky as it was still attached to the tree at the top, so I was able to get on the roof with pruners and a chain saw and cut enough of it away that it just feel away from the house and didn't come through the bay window, I think it being attached to the tree still made it act like a swing and just swing away, once I got it cut down enough. At least it only caused minor damaged to the shingles.

Just had one downspout ripped away from the house and it was banging into the power line coming into the house, so I went out in the wind and since the power was already out, got my ladder and climbed up and grabbed it and used dry wall screws to put it back together and re attach it to the house.... Didn't feel like having sparks fly once poser came back on, but now it will still be days....

After the storm subsided we went out and walked around to make sure all of our neighbors were okay, even told them we had some ice crème cake, that they could have some of if they wanted/ liked it.....

Got the generator fired up and had power, but no TV,phone or internet... good thing we had batteries for our radio, so we could listen to the reports....

took the FJR to Teresa parents house and got there cold goods and took them back to my house to keep in the ice box for them,

We tried to come into work yesterday, as we were driving out our main street to hwy 42, there were transformers and power lines just hanging, at one point we had to drive under a power line that may have been 2-3 feet above my truck as we drove under it, we though to ourselves that we won't be on this road again until power is restored and we know that that stuff has been squared away.

Had to go into Lagrange, KY yesterday to get gas, filled up the truck and cans for the generator.

We then spent the rest of the day cutting up and burning all of the tree limbs and foliage from them, geo it all cleaned up except for the bigger limbs, will take a few days to get all of that cut up.....

All in all, not to bad..... This time mother Nature gave us a break......

Glad to hear you guys made it thru. Sounds like KY got hit worse than we did in Arkansas. We had major winds, some power outages, some trees down, but all in all we had two worse storms back in April. I was concerned about the winds, as the eye came thru here at about 2:30 am on Sunday AM, especially with the ground still soaking wet from Gustav, but no major problems up on our hill.

My suggestion, even though the maples are pretty in the fall, is get rid of those!!! The trunks split too easy, and as you mentioned, the limbs are not any better.

Good luck, stay away from the power lines!!!

Dang! That limb that hit your house... Eeek... Glad you were able to clear it OK and made it through.

Here in Central Ohio, there are still lots of people without power, traffic lights still out, businesses closed... It's getting better, but, um, yeah - we're with ya up here.

Luckily, my power was out for all of 90 seconds on Sunday. :punk:

Friends of mine are still without power. :puke:

Glad you made it through! :yahoo:

Hope your neighbors are OK. I love log cabins....

I was watching it at 4 AM Saturday morning in Downtown Houston. It was definitely intense. The wind was howling, raining sideways, trees blown over in just seconds, Office furniture and broken glass being blown out of many of the tall buildings. My office building is still closed. The devastation on the Gulf Coast from Galveston to Southern Louisiana is just amazing and it only took a few hours. A lot of people need a lot of help.
