Am I the only one who finds the irony in this story?

Cops routinely have to operate a LARGE amount of switches, lights, sirens, multiple radios, laptop computer, take down lights, radar and ...
Just curious... How many cops have killed or maimed people while driving distracted and how many cops have been killed or maimed by distracted drivers?
Irony?

Well first of all, Bustanut is ****** in the Head........

Everyone gets all ****** up about a cager on the cell phone, but by the same token, look at the threads about GPS, Autocomm, Bluetooth,etc...etc....

So,,,,,, it's OK for us to have all these hi-tech devices on our bikes,..... BUT any ******* cager should be charged and administered the death penalty........

Stop and think for a minute,( Sorry Bust, this don't include you),

We can all sit here and point out everyone else's faults. but how about you sit back and reflect on how many times it has been your fault for not paying attention (for fiddling with your Sheep or whatever).......

Second of all.... Bustanut is still ****** in the head.........

Ah... the voice of reason...

No comment. :glare:
Gunny! Ok, I can't resist.
Sorry bud, here goes my rant on cell phones....

Lord knows I of all people don't want any more silly laws; however, I would not loose sleep if cell phones were band completely in the car. For that matter ban them period. Life was simpler without them.

The cop'ers in Cali will nail you period, even if you look like you're looking at your phone. Neighbor of mine got nailed for looking at the time on his phone.

Please drive while driving folks. ;)
So...you gonna ticket someone for looking at the built-in gps? What about them looking down to change the radio station, or how about when they are dealing with the little one in the back and thus turn around and speak to them? All the same level of distraction as using a GPS on a phone. No way, no how should using the GPS function on a cell phone be cause for a ticket.

You do not like the phone fine, but I am tired of the "well it is good for you" people working to get more and more laws enacted to control others.

What if we require the phone manufacturers to build in a sleep mode. Most smart phones have gps capabilities, so, what if the phones automatically go Ito sleep mode when any speed above say 10mph is detected. All incoming calls would go to voicemail and all outgoing and text capabilities would be frozen. Hmmm wadda you think?
Ummmm....I travel a LOT and I use the built-in GPS/navigation functions of the phone. Why the hell would I want it to go to sleep?

In an ideal world people would not be doing things which distract their attention from the task at hand while driving. Since this is not an ideal world, the next best thing would be for LEO to enforce careless and distracted driving laws so that whenever a driver does something that is careless or distracts him such that he is not safe to others.

However, that doesn't work except in extreme cases. It is very difficult to prove a case of distracted driving in court. It is more realistic to charge the distracted driver with a specific charge, like use of cellular phone, and make it stick.

Also, it is obvious to me when driving that I can not safely use a cell phone and drive at the same time. It is simply too demanding of my attention to read the small screen or press the right button. Some people may be able to do this safely, but you can see examples on the road every day of people why try without success. This is much less of a problem with a Bluetooth device or other devices, like a GPS or stereo. They are also distractions, but do not demand full focus as often or for as many seconds at a time as a phone does.
