Just got my FJR

Just got my 2005 with ABS from a lady whose husband passsed away about a year ago. The bike has been in her garage ever since and she really doesn't know much about it. It has 10,500 miles on it and runs great. I've seen posts about the ticking problem mine isn't at the moment I think. She doesn't know if it has been repaired. Is there any way of telling if the valve guides have been done short of tearing it down? What percentage of bikes develop the tick?
