The forum's been kinda quiet lately... not much going on. Thought I'd resurrect this entry from "I fought the law" posted here about a year ago... just for your entertainment.

"I think I know why I'm not paying a ticket today. Though it could be the fact that I was shifting at 4k rpm, ei I was only accelerating at 1/2 of what she CAN do, or maybe it had something to do with, as the officer said, the fact that he was a biker too... or maybe it was my grey hair or the business attire. But I think the reason was -- the officer went back to the cruiser to check my record. In a few days, I celebrate 41 years of driving when I turn 57. During my first 20 years, I fit right in with many of you fine people. I had more tickets than I knew what to do with, and almost lost my license before my 18th birthday. However, I made some decisions about 20 years ago, and haven't had a moving violation since. As the officer said, the fact that I wasn't speeding or showing off combined with my driving record caused him to simply warn me to take it easy. But then again, truth be known, I WAS taking it easy (albeit not easy enough). The FJR can go so much faster than the way I drive it. Good thing I wasn't ringing it out that day. I save that stuff for those moments when I'm miles from anything or anyone.

Here's a thought: maybe he saw the Exalto on the back, and figured anybody brave enough to ride on that thing needs a break!!"

Funny thing. I was just recounting the fact that I too have not had a moving violation since I was 21 yrs. old and believe me, traveling with certain peeps from this forum, THAT'S saying something! Now I'm not superstitious or anything about talking about my good fortune, but this morning I did walk around a ladder, avoided mirrors and threw a pound of salt over my left shoulder. (or should that be my right shoulder......going to get more salt)

I had a "blue" probationary license when I was 27 and most of the points came from motorcycle tickets. I've been much better since: two tickets in 20 years... then, three years ago - BAM! I got two speed violations in four months - both in cages! Now, the MVR is clean again. We did get stopped in Idaho in June doing 59 in a 40 in a marvelous motorcycling canyon. The deputy was pissed! He chewed my ass for a good 10 minutes. He said he is very hard on motorcycles and never lets them off because he is sick and tired of cleaning up fatalities, etc., etc., etc. I asked if I could remove my helmet early in the ass chewing and he consented, then got a look at my all-grey hair and wrinkles and seemed to calm a bit. Of course I apologized for my stupid indiscretion, which seemed to calm him even more. Then he asked if it was my first time on that road (I saw a glimmer of hope), and I said, yes, and that it was so fine I had gotten carried away with the fun factor, apologizing again. He let us off with a warning! Whew!
