DUH, Whats a Terrabyte and FAT32 or NTFS?

Terrabyte: 1000 gigabytes

Fat32 and NTFS are types of formatting for hard drives. Type NTFS into Google and wikapedia has an article explaining the basics.

I'm with some of the older guys - - I remember when 20 megs was "massive".

Later.

8,796,093,022,208 bits or 1,099,511,627,776 bytes or 1,073,741,824kb or 1,048,576mb or 1,024gb or 1TB

Any way you look at it that's a buncha data sheet.

I really must say that for the house, external USB/firewire drives are not where it is at. Get a good NAS drive (Networked Attached Storage), and the drive is accessible to any computer in the house. It is running at 100Base TX, but it also supports Gigabit if your network hardware is up to task.

I have a WD 1TB NAS (WorldBook II) I got from Costco a few months ago ($350). It is a dual 500 GB drive you can config in mirrored or striped RAID. I have striped for the 1 TB.

All the PCs automatically back themselves up to it, and I store movies on it for my kids to watch over my Media Center PC (connected to 46" LCD. Yes it's good!). The drive also has a USB port for attaching an external drive, and that shows on the network as an additional share.

The WD also has MIONet software, which I am not using, but I believe it shares data over the internet for easy access anywhere if you choose to have it.
