We are buying an FJR from a guy in Georgia which we intend to ride to LA in a round a bout way then send it home to NZ. What we need to know is how we go about registering the bike so we can ride it. We were planning on getting a " In Transit Permit " which would allow us 30 days to transport the bike to LA which is perfect for us. The problem is Georgia is one of the few states that don't issue temporary In Transit Permits. Can we ride it out of state to South Carolina and get a temporary permit there or is there another option? We'd really appreciate your advise on this thanks.

Don't have an answer for your question, so I'll answer with a question.

Will NZ let you preregister (permanent or transit) and bring the plates with you?

No, before you can register a newly imported vehicle it has to go through a thorough inspection. Plates are issued to the vehicle and stay with that vehicle for the life of the vehicle.

Thanks.
