Koubalinks for lowering?

I'm going to purchase the Koubalinks to lower my FJR a little and the question I have is regarding the front forks and sliding them up to match 1/2" or so. How does one slide them up? What is the proper way to do this to keep the geometry of the bike the same? I did check out "search" but came up empty on how to slide the front forks. Is this easy enough for a backyard wrench or does one need a pro?
