Looks like a big FJR crowd has signed up for the LOE. Makes me wonder who will be the top rider outta this bunch. I know I'm going to try and move up in the standing from last year's ride or at least be a finisher.

Have a great time. I paid, but won't be able to attend due to a lack of vacation days and another conflict. I keep hearing about Ira's great rally. I swear I'm gonna make it down there one year.

This years rally should be interesting. We have our largest group this year (probably because I forgot to put the cut off date in ). It should be fun my first time not riding but I'll be checking everyone in and waving as you take off. While you are out having fun, I'm taking my wife to the Trinity Site then lunch at the Buckhorn (hummm green chile cheese burgers).

Well, that was FUN! Ira and staff put together an interesting puzzle, where we had to claim EXACTLY 9 bonii, each worth either positive and negative points. The winner was whoever got closest to zero points. No obvious (to me) clustering of optimal points, except that positive bonii were north of I40 and negative south of I140.

I was up well past 2am trying to find a low point combo with reasonable miles, but best I could muster was (-1286) points (1105 miles ridden) for 17th place out of 50 (?) some-odd finishers. For reference, first place (Jim Owen) knocked it out of the park with (-58) points 1140 miles(I'm officially in AWE!!!).

Had a ton of fun riding to places I had no clue existed, e.g. the world's biggest pistachio nut near Alamogordo. Weather was mostly cooperative, cool in the north, hot/windy in the south, and about 20 minutes of riding through dime-sized (ouch!) hail going through Cloudcroft.

Major hail storm in the Abq area Sat evening, hope you were all south of it. I hate to have missed out, I'll try again next year. Gald no one was hurt this year. It's one hell of a day of riding isn't it.

This year's LOE definitely had to make you think outside the box. I was also up into the wee hours of the morning before the start trying to figure out a route that would yield a close to zero point total. I went north up into the mountains during the daylight hours and then was going to head south to nab the negative bonuses to complete my ride. This didn't happen I was on 25 when all hell(hail)broke loose. I was stuck out in the middle of the interstate with no place to go and to make matters worse traffic came to an absolute stop. So with my window of opptuninty slamming shut I had to re-group and figure out how I was going to come out of this mess with at least finisher status. I made it back to the motel in time for a easy rest bonus. The weather reports didn't look good for the south and east, so I went into the elk breeding grounds of western NM. Wow! There was a bunch of animals milling around and damn sure big. The ABS on the FJR worked damned fine on a couple of occasions, great roads though.

I'm not sure where I placed but I bet it was in the bottom portion of the standing. This was my first rally and a 1000 mile ride(actually 1135) on an FJR. Now I can see why it is the bike of choice for many who ride LD rallies. Congrats to all who finshed safely and to the top ten. Can't wait for next year's LOE.

I am looking into the LOE rally next year. Will have to wait and see what the dates are and if I can get the time off from work. I looked like everyone had a great time.
