Anyone know what the cost of a ticket for lane "sharing" in Alabama might be?

Not that I've broken the law on any gridlock traffic that might have occurred on un-named highways in un-named localities... Just wondering what the downside is to getting caught.

If you're splitting traffic (sharing) how does a police officer catch up to you? I'm a Cali boy, so I can't help with the AL tickent, sorry :dribble:

talk about snooty californians. Sheesh ;)

Lane sharing in Alabamba - it probably falls under something like reckless driving or some other such catch all. Could be expensive!

Alabama, probably get hanged, but not by the cops.
Or you could start a movement.
Gunny2

I can't say about Alabama, but in the Northeast I'd be more concerned about enraged cagers than I would about a ticket.

Fencer made some effort to contact some of our legislators about allowing lane-sharing. I don't know how far he got. I agree with O'vale... I'm guessing they'd nail you for reckless driving. If MSC happens to see this, he could probably tell you.

Yep, the movement has started. But snails are running past us

I would guess reckless driving

Jerry, I would be happy to have help - moving right along

Well, I've no idea as to the cost. And I guess it all depends on the mood and descretion of the officer. I could see him writing anything from "Wreckless Driving" to "Improper Use of Lane" to "Failure to Yield" to "Improper Passing."

It is listed as illegal under a specific code on the AMA site. Here's the link.

You'd have to research what the fine is with that code.

Silent -

The two methods of catching lane "sharers" I've seen are to use the radio and call ahead, or for the officer to flip on the lights and siren, opening the path behind you.

Cost me $60 a couple years ago here in Texas. Illegal lane use or some such. I was just splitting between the cars at a red light. Guess someone got on a cell phone and called it in. I don't do that here anymore.

Did you wave a C note at the officer and he looked offended? Just kidding, I know it costs more than that.

I often give myself a little pinch (it's just something I like to do) and think how lucky I am to live in the only freaking state in the whole freaking country whose legislators haven't stuck their damn noses into THIS particular aspect of our lives. I'll be heading to Golden in July, and then up north to Glacier N.P., passing through God-knows-how-many states where you CAN'T exercise your God-given (and if it isn't it should be) right to split lanes, and getting more and more frustrated whenever I'm blocked behind a pair of cages crawling along at the same speed. (Getting pissed off just thinking about it.) Don't have a clue as to the answer to the original question, just enjoying the last few moments before some wacky-assed California Assemblyman decides he knows how to make my life better and safer. Everybody say it with me: FREEDOM!

Sheesh. That came out of nowhere. Another thread closed.
