: One final note: The most intense riding I have ever done (dirt or street) was sustained lane sharing for 5 minutes or more. Do it for 20 or 30 straight and you will know it when you are done. Most sharing comes in short spurts... just a few minutes here and there and then traffic moves again giving a break. I know some of the L.A. area guys can attest to tens of minutes or more of continuous lane sharing.

You should try sharing from Camarillo to Torrance thru holiday traffic, It's all good though and keeps the juices flowing!!!!!!!!!!

You Cali guys can keep your lane splitting / sharing.
disagree. let it be okay everywhere and let people choose to do it if they want.
I agree 100%. Should be legal, but I still wouldn't do it here. I also do not support mandatory helmet laws (except for young and inexperienced riders) and yet I personally would never ride without one.

I think there may be 2 big differences in the PRC that makes it work there that we do not have here..

1) Cali roads are way newer (on average) than most of the roads in New England, or anywhere else in the NE. What passes for an interstate in many places is just an old state road that now receives national funding. Most roads up here were friggen cow paths, or indian trails, before they were interstates. :) Your lanes appear to be wider, or your cars appear to be thinner, or something.

2) Cali cage drivers seem to be much, much more docile. Around most of the Northeast I observe drivers every day that cannot stand to see an open car length space in the roadway and will dart from lane to lane to advance by only a car's length. This is one reason that I don't feel comfortable in heavy traffic on the bike around here. I'm telling you, these people drive STUPID(ly)!!

I can see maybe splitting lanes at a stop light when the cages aren't moving
that's not sharing that "filtering" and both should be cool.
Thanks for the clarification. I was never clear what the difference was.

GUNNY!

I was shocked when I was in Massachusetts and the way the cagers drove. HOLY SMOKES!!! :dribble:

I would be afraid to ride a bike there... and in Texas. As great as the people are in Texas, and I love that place, it seemed like many lights and stop signs from what I observed... well.... lets say it was optional to stop.

Uh huh... So long as "the juices" aren't flowing on the roadway...

Watching the videos brought back memories of growing up in Southern California and one of the big reasons I moved to NorCal.
